The lychee seeds I’d saved have sprouted.
Yesterday was planting day.
Now . . I wait to see if they sprout through the dirt, and then if I can keep them alive in the greenhouse through the winter. Assuming they grow and survive, I doubt I’ll have any fruit til at least 2017 but . . if I didn’t plant them, I’d never have any fruit.
Speaking of weird plantings, the turmeric roots I sprouted and planted are growing like crazy.
The ginger, also sprouted from storebought ginger root, is growing too.
I doodle around in the dirt and check the roots and so far, it looks like it will be a while before I’m harvesting any ginger or turmeric root but, again, if I’d never planted them, I’d never get any so I’ll try to be patient!

I planted some ginger root from a friend in California. She brought it from her mom’s house in Hawaii. It grew and the flowers were amazing. Beautiful and had the best scent.
Hope yours do well.

So you planted just regular ginger root from the grocery store? I never would’ve imagined that would grow. What did you plant for the turmeric and then what do you use it for? Most of that stuff I would never dream of planting! HA

Where did you get the turmeric root to plant? I would love to try that.
I grow ginger from the grocery store. The young shoots make great pickled ginger!

Curious if you cut the tops back, do more roots grow, or do you just get more foliage coming to replace what you cut?
