Did I say that Rita is only a good dog when she’s sleeping? And, since she snores almost louder than Vince does, I’m probably pushing it to even say she’s a good dog when she’s sleeping.
You know that we don’t go out very often . . rarely! One night this week we went to eat at a friend’s house. We left here about 5:15 and got home I guess about 9:30. Here’s what I think happened:
One of us didn’t shut the laundry room door. We have floor to ceiling shelves in there and on the second shelf, there’s a bag of dental biscuits for dogs. They each get one per day. It’s a proven fact that Rita can climb/jump to get as high as she needs to go for food. It’s another proven fact that Speck will eat til he makes himself sick, and then he will eat some more.
So . . Vince and I got home. He went to close up the coops and I came in to take the dogs out. I saw that Speck had thrown up and Rita had a dental biscuit in her mouth. That was weird but I let her have it. Speck has tummy issues so throwing up isn’t out of the ordinary for him . . til I saw how much he had thrown up. OMG! He must have had his weight in dental biscuits.
He was sick all night and it was about 3 p.m. today before he would even look at food.
My guess is Rita realized the laundry room door was ajar and managed to get the bag down and then Speck wouldn’t let her have any so he ate his fill of them.
I am so thankful for wood floors with no carpet because between these two dogs, I’m afraid I would have the nastiest carpet in town.
Now we have to make sure the bedroom doors are closed, make sure the pantry door is closed, make sure the laundry room door is closed . . leave the back door open and hope they both run away! 🙂

Oh dear! Dogs will be dogs, won’t they? I think you’re right about leaving the back door open, hoping they’ll run away! LOL I do believe I’d do the same!! 🙂

I would never do it, and I know you wouldn’t either but sometimes, it sounds like a good idea.

We’ve got baby locks on all the cupboards with food or cleaning stuff because our dog Elly is just like Rita. It’s a pain, but we can’t afford the vet bills if she gets into something she shouldn’t have.

Our dogs (past and present) have never destroyed stuff when left alone. We’ve always left a radio on when away. Has been turned to talk shows or music at a normal volume. Has always worked at our house. Might be worth a try.

They are trying your patience aren’t they. Too bad you can’t give them a timeout like you would with a child.

Crazy animals! My Sadie (cat) will get up on the counter or a shelf and chew through a bag of dog treats to eat them. That’s right, DOG treats eaten by a CAT. I have to lock Ozzie’s dog treats up in a cabinet, and I put a stick through the handles, so she can’t get them. Crazy kitty. I hope Speck will be okay!

Lol! As usual, I really did laugh out loud reading your blog post today! But not funny for you, no doubt!

LOL! I feel your pain. I have a cat that insists on peeing by the front door and any throw rug throughout the house. The only solution that worked was to put a liter box by the front door and eliminate all the throw rugs. She’s an indoor cat and is afraid of her own shadow. So, the open door wouldn’t work for her!

I had a dog that could open the refrigerator! What a mess I’d come home to! All my Tupperware containers had doggie teeth marks on the lids. I finally figured out a way to secure the fridge door so she couldn’t get it open.

That is too funny! You should set up a nanny camera. Poor Speck. He better learn to share!
