The Joker and the Thief was released last month and as soon as I saw it, I knew I wanted to make it.
I kept going back and forth between ordering a kit and using yarn I had here. It’s so hard to order yarns that will match up nicely because the differences in screen colors or photos vs. real life . . just makes it hard. I was able to come up with this combination of yarn and I figured since I wasn’t using mini skeins, I could make two of these . . one for me and one for a friend.
All of this is Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light.
Knowing that the dark gray will be in between them all, I figured that would make this color choice work fine except for the one on the left. That one just does not go. I went through my spreadsheets to be sure I wasn’t missing a yarn that would work and I just didn’t have anything. I checked The Loopy Ewe and Eat, Sleep, Knit and there was nothing I thought would work.
Farmhouse White is too white. Natural has no color at all. In my mind, I kept thinking Masala would work. I have that in DK weight but not in the Tosh Merino Light.
Since I’m going to be in Houston soon, I called a couple of knitting shops near where I’ll be and none of them had any Tosh Merino Light. Out of desperation, I called the Madelinetosh shop, which is in Fort Worth. I explained to the very nice lady that I needed something that was lighter than Winter Wheat (the second from the left) but not too light. She said Masala would be what you need and that’s a discontinued color. She told me they had it in several other bases but no . . I needed it in Tosh Merino Light. She said “I could dye a couple of skeins for you!” Really?
Two skeins of Masala in Tosh Merino Light will be headed my way soon. You have to admit that’s great service and guess what else! She asked me if I was local and I said . . almost, I’m in Brownwood. She said “My family lives in Brownwood!” Her parents, her grandparents! Amazing, huh? I asked her to bring a truck load of yarn next time she comes to town.
I’m pretty excited to be getting the Masala and I think as soon as I get a break from Camp Loopy stuff, I’m going to make The Joker and the Thief.
