A New Book: Country Girl Modern

Jo Kramer has been a blog friend for many years and I was thrilled when I read that Jo, and her daughter, Kelli, were writing a book together. The book, Country Girl Modern, can be purchased through Jo’s book store. The book, as expected, is a fantastic one. The quilts all seem to be simple enough to make, but strikingly beautiful. I love the use of so many tone on tone fabric! And I love the country scenery in the pictures. The book is inspiring enough that it makes me want to dig out fabrics and start making a few of the quilts in the book.

There are 11 “Modern-Traditional” quilts included in the book. I sometimes look at modern quilts and they’re too modern for my traditional tastes but every quilt in her is a quilt I would love to make. Just enough modern but just enough tradition . . what a great balance Jo and Kelli achieved.

    • May Flowers is probably the first quilt that I will make from Jo and Kelli’s book. These scrappy quilts really appeal to me!

  12. This is a really hard question as I love all the quilts in their book. For starters, I would probably make the Almost Amish quilt. The barn raising design is one of my absolute favorites and I can see this using up lots of scraps. Thank you for your part in the giveaway!

  31. Right off the bat I was entranced with Rainbow Connection. I liked the Almost Amish one, as well, but for me that would be in 30s repro fabrics. How fun it would be to win a copy of the book—a quilter can never have too many pattern sources, right?

    I found Jo’s blog through your blog awhile ago. Great to see their book is now available and hope it’s a great success for them.

    There are a few quilts that caught my interest – leaning towards Almost Amish.

  44. I’m not usually a huge fan of modern quilts either but these are very appealing. Connect four really resonates with me… love the simplicity… could see little boys especially sleeping under that! Puddle duck is adorable too. Thanks for the chance.

  48. I like the last one the best–all those stars on a field of white/muslin. I think it is the one they asked readers for 2 1/2 inch strips. It is so happy! That is the one I would make first.

  50. I would make the May Flowers quilt. I love the colors and the “airiness” of the design. In fact, if I don’t win a copy, I might just have to buy the book to get the pattern!!

  51. I would definitely do Connect Four, or Puddle Jump. Can’t eliminate any of them. Would probably end up doing all! Some books and patterns are just too good.

  228. Looks like a fabulous book and there wasn’t a single quilt I didn’t like! My top three faves were… May Flowers, Puddleduck, or Modalicious…in that order. Yum! Would love to win a copy …can’t wait to read it!
