Vince has been off for so many days, I’ve lost my mind I am so confused about what day of the week it is. If he’s home, it HAS to be Saturday or Sunday! 🙂
Early this morning, I asked him “Is today Tuesday or Wednesday?” He told me it was Tuesday. A couple of hours later, we were headed to town (of course we were . . he’s off work!) and we passed a building that’s part of the city government. He said “I’m never quite sure what that building is” and I said “It has something to do with city government but there surely are a lot of cars there for a Saturday!” He, in his gentle and kind Italian way, reminded me that it wasn’t 2 hours ago that he told me it was TUESDAY!!
I am going to hang a calendar on my bathroom wall and each day, probably several times a day, I’m going to check to see what day it is and cross off each day that passes . . but I guess truly it doesn’t matter what day it is at this point in our lives.
We’re under a winter weather advisory which may be changed to a warning tonight or tomorrow, depending on how much precipitation heads our way. It’s still hard for me to believe that it stays so hot for so long during the summer, and yet we deal with ice every winter. I knew the summers were going to be long and hot but expected winters to be more like those in southwest Louisiana . . a few cold days but rarely ice and single digit temperatures. Wrong again!
Our gas cans are filled. The generators have been tested and are sitting by the shop door, ready to be put into action if needed. Hopefully we won’t need them. I can get by with everything except I’d like to be able to flush toilets and take a shower. Otherwise, I can cook on the stove and we’ll stay warm by the fire. It isn’t going to be terribly cold, just barely enough below freezing for us to get ice.
I still remember that night in Louisiana 17 or 18 years ago when temps dropped below freezing for hardly any time and about every line in southwest Louisiana came down and we had no power, in a total electric house with no fireplace, for 7 days. We’re so much better prepared now but I still hope it doesn’t happen.
So, if I’m quiet for a few days, it could mean we have no power or it could just mean we have no internet . . which happens way too often around here.

I think its so weird that you guys seem to get worse weather yet you’re south and west of us. Think our only possible day is NY day and it doesn’t really look like it will do much of anything. Do you have a ‘smart’ phone? I’m always checking mine for date/day/time. Never thought it would happen but mine is pretty much glued to me. 🙁

I do have an iPhone but I’m not one who keeps it with me. I will go for days without even knowing where it is. I use the iPad more and could look at the date on there but I guess it’s not real important to me.

Judy – Palm Springs, CA is frigid too. the high tomorrow may hit 40. A 24 degree drop. We have covered some plants. Snow level here will be about 2,,ooo feet…maybe a few flakes in town. We are wearing sweats and I have my UGG boots on. Going to dig out my mittens to wear in the morning when I take my coffee and paper out on the patio to read. It has been colder before, but it has been chilly here for about 4 days. Pray that you have no problems…nor do we. Kids should be here tomorrow – they plan on having dinner with us. Prime Rib. That is what DH wanted. Add some mashed potatoes, sautéed mushrooms, Yorkshire pudding and salad – dinner! Maybe Dove bars for dessert.
Wishing you and Vince a very happy New Year.
Take off as soon as you can to go see that sweet Addie – and her parents of course. Just wait for good weather.[[[[[ She is such a beautiful child!
Love you girl….

I know how you feel. Monday I decided to drive through town a couple of blocks off the main street to see what was there. I passed by a government building and thought the same thing when I saw all the cars. LOL. I guess I need to go back to work so I’ll know what day it is!

You are right in the path of those fronts that come through! Couldn’t believe the temp. for Amarillo last evening when we were watching the 6 PM news! Being a little further south we do get the benefit of air from the Gulf. But a little cold is good! And you are prepared!

Ever since Nancy and I both retired several years ago, the only way we can keep track of the days is with the daily newspaper! LOL …
