Sometimes I’m a wimp . . and I’m always a wimp when it comes to setting the traps. They scare me and I just almost refuse to mess with them but often, it gets dark before Vince gets everything done and he doesn’t keep the traps set. They need to be set every night and we’ve not been doing it but I’m seeing more and more tracks in the sand around the coop so I’ve put a trail cam out there. Last night I finally got some pictures of critters.
This one seems to come around every evening. He would probably say he’s already been “caught” and we celebrate the anniversary once a year! 🙂
Seriously, I think these guys come around most every night and I detest them!
Here’s a tail . . maybe a cat? It isn’t a raccoon tail but I’m not real sure that it’s a cat either.
If you look at the far right side of the above picture, and compare the same position in the photo below, you’ll see a critter going out into the woods.
I don’t think it’s a raccoon either . . not sure what it is.
This is why we build our coops like a fortress . . to keep the hungry critters out!

Looking at the pictures, my first thought was a raccoon because of the shape of the head and it looks like it has a black band. But the tail says something else. Could it be a possum? Well anyway, shame on that critter stalking your chickens.

It’s not a possum…they don’t have furry thick tails..My first thought was also raccoon, but the tail isn’t right for that either. The mystery continues…..

LOVE how you guys have your own version of “selfies”! You two are quite a pair and get up to the funniest hijinks! Thank you for keeping me entertained in between studying for final exams. Keep those chickens safe!

I’m going to guess fox or bobcat.

The tail looks like a shortened cat tail; it even seems to have tabby markings. A friend’s cat lost part of its tail and it looks much like that.
I think the critter leaving is a raccoon, because I think I see its bandit mask.
So, yes, critters (multiple).

I think you have ringtail cats down their. I don’t know what their local name is, but they have them in Oklahoma. Slimmer than a racoon and longer not quite so fluffy fuzzy tail.

I think the critter looks like a groundhog. My girlfriend had chickens and lots of troubles with raccoons. Her late husband would go out with a gun (he had a federal license and sold ammo for a living) and start shooting. After her husband passed she would get her two sons up in the middle of the night (their father trained them on how to use guns) and go out to the coop and start shooting. She said one night it sounded like world war 3 and was surprised that one of the neighbors had not called the sheriff. One summer they did away with 15 raccoons!

I’d say the tail in question is a cat. But, let’s face it, if a cat could get a small chicken for dinner it would make it just as happy as it would a coon or possum.

I think that the first picture looks like a fox. Will be interesting to see what you catch!
