Sometimes, it’s just more fun to sit with the computer and play with Electric Quilt than it is sew or knit or clean house. This morning I was cleaning out the EQ files on the computer, deleting some that just don’t seem to be heading towards a quilt I want to make. When cleaning out files, I almost always come across a file or two that I fiddle with til I get something I like.
This is one of those files.
Continuing with my “journey” through Texas towns, this one will be called Road to Brenham. Brenham is a gorgeous little town not terribly far from here. Vince and I visited there many years ago because . . well . .
. . the Blue Bell ice cream factory is there. While looking it up online, I see there’s a Blue Bell in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. No one ever told me that and I lived 3 hours from there. I would have been there . . It’s a good thing I didn’t know it was there.
So, what do you think about my Road to Brenham design? Let me know while I finish eating that bowl of Red Velvet Cake ice cream.
Lee Ann Hansen says
Your design is beautiful! I’d love to have the EQ file so I could play with different colors. Enjoy that ice cream!
Mary Ann Parker says
Road to Brenham is a really great design! It would be wonderful in any color combination but the blue and gold is classic. I would make it with solid blocks in the center stars rather than the nine patch blocks. The nine patches make it a little busy (for me)! Where can I buy your border book?
JudyL says
The little nine patches in the blocks are what tie the border to the center.
Sandie says
Judy’s border book is available at Joanns, or Amazon, or probably directly from her, I would imagine!
Vivian Oaks says
Gorgeous!! I love it! 🙂
Carol says
The new Lemon Bliss from Bluebell is delicious!!!!!
Amy says
I love this! I even think I have the perfect fabric on hand….
Diane Wright says
The borders are inspired. Love the whole thing but would really enjoy using the border design on one of my ufo’s. My ufo’s, unlike yours, have ever gotten to the binding yet.
Peggy says
I love this design. The cream at the outer edge of the main design creates hearts. Is that for your love of Blue Bell Ice Cream? I like the way the pieced border crosses in the corners. One thing I would like to point out to you. In the upper left hand corner the triangle between the two squares going down the side of the quilt is painted cream. All the rest in the same position are gold. Keep this design!
JudyL says
Thank you. I’ll fix it when I get back to the laptop.
lynne quinsland says
looks like a quilt a long project to me!!! waht a winner winner chicken dinner quilt!!!
Dottie N. says
I love it, Judy!
Kim says
I like this – I see vanilla and peach ice cream with blueberry topping. It’s named well and is a keeper. What other “Roads to …” do you have in mind in this series? Due to a sewing machine malfunction (now fixed) I am only on step 6 of the Road to Round Rock. Can’t wait to get done!
JudyL says
I don’t know . . there are a lot of towns and cities in Texas! 🙂 I’ll tell Vince we can’t move from the state of Texas til I’m done with my series.
Sue in Scottsdale, AZ says
I love this quilt. But then again, I love all the quilts you design. I think the 9-patches in the stars are great. I hope you share the EQ file or create a pattern for a quilt-a-long.
Rita Schiavone says
Love it!! Beautiful colors & design.
pdudgeon says
love the pattern and the very classic color choices, and i especially love that you told us what flavor of Blue Bell ice cream is in the bowl. you know i would have bugged you about it if you hadn’t!
p.s. with this series of Texas ‘road’ quilts, you do know that you have the makings of another book, right???
Marion Morgan says
The quilt is beautiful, especially love the yellow and blue. Pattern looks too hard for me, but when you do a class, doesn’t seem so intimidating. I ‘m mulling over your up coming quilt-a-thon. It will be gardening time here then, but want to try it.
shirley bruner says
blue and yellow is always a hit with me. i think it is gorgeous. and you can’t beat Blue Bell, either. i miss Blue Bell
Swooze says
I love it! Quilt along??
Susan says
I like the design. I’d probably like it more without yellow. LOL I’m waiting for the book announcement. =) I wish I had some ice cream. I might have to stop at Food City and use the change in my ashtray to see what I can buy after my meeting tonight!
Meloney says
I love it. The 9 patches in the outside border are wonderful. Great job! Is this the next one we will be doing>?
Susan Fields says
Oh, I do hope you will do a Quilt Along using this design.
Diana Stewart says
Great design once again. Hope you share. Must get busy on my UFO’S so I can start something new again!
Vicki W says
I love it!
Barb in MI says
Yep, it’s a keeper – love your Road to Brenham!
Will it be a quilt for you or a quilt along or? Would make a great QOV with red instead of yellow.. Not sure what your current dimensions are though – it looks huge!
Ellie says
Very pretty! I;d like to make this one and love the blue and yellow.
Peg H says
LOVE it!
Rosalie says
I love it….the design is great, but especially the blue and yellow!
Paula says
I love it….may be one of my favorites from you!
Nancy Angerer says
I love it! The blue and yellow combination really sets it off.
Sherry says
Another winner! I like the book of Roads idea! Hope we do this one.
Trish says
Love it!
Susan-North Idaho says
Judy, this one is my most favorite of all that you have shared with us. It is beautiful…colors…design… I just love it.
Terri says
It is a keeper, would look great on my bed.
I was raised on blue bell, and part of their advertisement was it was only available in Texas. I moved to Ca in ’90 for work. When I returned 2 yrs later I had 3 goals.
TexMex, shipleys chocolate filled donuts and any flavor blue bell ice cream. I found all in El Paso.
marcille irwin says
Better late than never, right? Anyway, I really love this quilt,
I hope that you will do it as a quilt-a-long, or free pattern since I don’t have EQ.
P.S. I love reading your blog, but I really don’t know where you get all of your energy!
Sheri says
Oh, that is just beautiful! Love the design AND the colors. (And Blue Bell Ice Cream, which we discovered when we moved here. Yum.)
