Aurifil again and for the same reasons…..clean, fine, strong…..though I do pull it through “thread heaven” conditioner, which seems to help prevent tangles.

I have always used Coats and Clark 100% cotton hand quilting thread. It was glazed in the past and didn’t tangle and was easily available. I can no longer find it with the glaze so use Thread Haven. I do a good bit of “Big Stitch” style quilting and like Presencia(sp?) perle cotton in size 16. It is easy to pull through the quilt sandwich and still show up nicely. This kind quilting goes much faster than traditional hand quilting and adds another look to quilts. I enjoy it for kids quilts.
I exclusively use YLI 40 wt or Gutermann 40 wt for identical reasons. I can use long strands without tangles and both are strong, 100% cotton. They also hold my invisible knots without fear of untying. They are both perfect threads for hand quilting.

I do very little hand quilting, but when I do, I have used Gutermann.
I haven’t hand quilted in forever, but always like the Coats and Clarks. I see someone said the glazed isn’t available now. I liked it because it pulled through smoothly and didn’t tangle. I have quite a bit, but I’ll have to try others next time I need one, I guess. I know I don’t care for Gutterman, though.

I use the King Tut 40wt or YLI 40wt for hand quilting. They are strong and do not tangle. Both the King Tut and YLI have a wide variety of colors.
YLI is a very good quilting thread. I have use Coates and Clack and it’s not bad And Gutterman I haven’t tried so I can not say. I have used pearl cotton for what is called a big stitch and it woulds out nicely. Beeswax is what I use to keep my thread from knotting and making sure you do not use a length of thread more that 18 inch help.

Hmmmmm it has been a long time since I have done any hand quilting, but I have done a lot of hand quilting. At the time I was using Mettler Swiss Metrosene 100% cotton quilting thread. Why……….because that was what I sold in my shop. It was a long staple thread and easy to get at the time.

I love YLI hand quilting thread, but it isn’t always available. My next favorite is Gutermann. Both have some body to them. They thread easily, even after being in the quilt for a while. I never see tangles from the YLI and very seldom from the Gutermann.

I have been using Gutermann for the past few years, although I do very little hand quilting now. I do not have any trouble with it tangling.

I only use…..Gutermann hand quilting thread…..I love the thickness and the stiffness…it’s easy to thread the needle with it and it also does not twist…..

YLI is my first choice but I also like Coats and Clark for colors. Each recommended by hand quilting teachers.

Gutermann (sp), 40 wt, just wish there were more colors.
Coats & Clark when a better color choice is needed. If Aurifil were available locally I would like to try it. Don’t want to order 1 roll.

I have just stated utility quilting and I like to use crochet thread. It comes on a big spool that lasts forever and it’s cheap.
I love YLI quilting thread, but is sometimes hard to find. At our QOV quilting days, the older ladies take any thread that is not waxed and submerge it into regular melted parafin until it quits bubbling. Then take it out, let it drain and wal-la you have waxed thread. It is amazing and works great.

I use hand quilting thread for hand sewing the binding down on the back of the quilt rather than hand quilting. I use Gutermann because of the waxy coating on it. The coating makes the needle easy to thread and prevents knotting.
