I know what rabbits do when no one is watching but . . did you know sewing machines do the same thing? I’m telling you . . they must! More unpacking and more sewing machines found. We found another Featherweight, a Singer from probably the 70’s. I haven’t opened the case yet. But, there’s a Singer 404 that was actually Vince’s machine. He’s never going to sew with it so I’m claiming it and finding a place for it in the sewing room for now.
I oiled it, cleaned and polished it and sewed for a few minutes with it. Vince did the same thing in 2010 and then promptly packed it away so it didn’t need much TLC to get it running smoothly.
One thing for sure . . we’ll never run out of sewing machines around here.

Had to smile when I saw this machine posted. One just like it sits in my sewing room. It was my gramma’s and it has always been my “spare”. I can’t use it for hours on end as the motor gets overheated if I piece like a mad-woman on it. I
must have over loaded it in high school when I was making all my clothes. 🙂

Are you sure you aren’t related to Bonnie????

Small question, do you have a treadle or hand crank machine???

Could you share what you use to polish your sewing machines?
Enjoy your blog, especially the chickens.

I have a Singer 301a that I dearly LOVE to paper piece with – works wonderful! And yes, they do tend to multiply – I just gifted myself an early Christmas present with a Vintage Atlas machine in near mint condition, can hardly wait for that pink beauty to get here and start the sewin’/quiltin’ FUN!
Love your blog and especially your chickens and cows 😉

Gee I thought they only multiplied at my house. I’ve got a thing for the 400 series. If only I could find only that has the drop part like for sleeves. I ‘ve had a machine since I was 8 years old and now I’ve got 6 and 60+ years old. Why do we think we need so many? We can only use one at a time. I know just in case something happens to the best machine singer ever made. right? Thanks for letting me know I’m not alone with this happening. Makes me feel better . wanda

Now, where’s the treadle or the hand-crank? I want both when I have my studio set up! I used to suspect they multiplied in the dark, so who knows how many I’ll have when I get all my things from storage in Phx and CA! Hopefully, they are like fish, and don’t try to exceed the size their environment can handle! That’s a nice-looking 404 you have there. I love my tan 301, and I want a black one.

I had that sewing machine! Back in high school – I remember it fondly.

Well you know if your machines happen to reproduce an extra 301, I will buy it from you!

Well, in spite of my efforts to downsize my quite considerable collection of sewing machines, I still have 11in my sewing room, 1 in the guest room and there are the ones in the garage that hubby is cleaning or fixing. I love old Singers so all but 3 are Singers, I Know they must cavort around at midnight and reproduce. lol
