Last week a friend wrote me to remind me that I had forgotten the “On the Needles” post and she so sweetly reminded me of this post. After reading it, I think I should become a politician! There’s a lot of spin and spew in there but the funniest might be this:
2012 is definitely going to bring about a change in my knitting and yarn purchasing habits!
My first thought is . . 2012 isn’t over yet. I still have time to change my habits. But for all practical purposes, there was no change in the yarn buying and knitting habits in 2012. I went back to The Loopy Ewe and added up how much I spent in 2011 and 2012 and I have spent about 20% less this year so that’s a start. The year isn’t over but I really have no plans to buy more yarn. Really!
The saddest point in the entire post is this:
Neither of those socks have mates yet. Maybe I could redeem myself by getting just one pair finished before the end of the year.

LOL I have ‘finished’ a sock the mate to a pair I started last yr, but I’m uncomfortable w the Kitchner stitch so it’s been laying on the couch and I picked up something else to knit. I need to google a video on the k stitch and wathc it while I’m doing it.
LOVE the quilt on the bed!

LOL You have such great friends!!! 😉
You’ll get to them, you have been a very busy woman this year.
And 20% less is very good!

Well, if you start having more steam coming out of your ears you could probably knit the mates to both socks in no time! LOL (Of course, I hope that you don’t have any more instances where you need to get steam going.)
Doreen says
Agree with Sherry V with the added thought that I hope you don’t have to ‘activate’ your plumber/lawyer team!!!!

you did change your habits – you held of what — 3 or 4 days into the year before buying and that 20% less – that’s good but then there may be that black friday sale coming up,

ROFLOL – Judy – in looking at the post again, following the link to the prior post where you talk about that crazy “No buy” challenge someone came up with and link to the post of “someone” doing a lot of crazy buying. It of course links back to my blog in general and seems quite appropriate that my latest blog post that it currently goes to has the new yarn I just received. 😉 Clearly there are those of us who simply can’t be reformed (nor do we want to be)!

Hi Judy, I have been inspired by your sock knitting. I have knitted years and years ago and have forgotten how now but would like to retrain my brain and try it again. How do I go about finding a pattern for making socks?
sharon says
I am sure you will get your sock mates completed this year. Did you know Mr yarn.com is having there 2nd. anniversary sale until Oct.15th.? They just restocked Smooshy with cashmere—- sorry for the terrible temptation, but the prices are terrific!
pdudgeon says
just an odd idea, but is there a way that you could incorporate the ‘leaders and enders’ concept used in quilting into your knitting?
Just grab one of the UFO socks when you’re ready to start a new pair of socks. For each knitting session, first knit a row on the UFO’s ,then switch to knitting on your new patttern, and do the same thing at the end of each knitting session.

You could always be like the kids now days and wear 2 different socks. Some of us “older” gals did it one day at work. Fun.

I used to have second sock syndrome- now I knit them 2-at-a-time on magic loop. The obvious advantage is that when I”m done I have a pair- the not so obvious is that if I make a mistake I make it on both socks- so it becomes a design element.
