The reason I go into such detail about the things we see and do around here is so that any of you who may be in the area visiting or passing through will know what’s around that’s worth visiting. We haven’t even been to some of the main attractions like Fredericksburg or Austin but we have the best time just exploring the area.
The wild flowers are still gorgeous south of us. Traveling down the highway, we kept saying “look here”, “look there”! No knitting in the car when there’s so much beauty all around.
The flowers were so pretty but there aren’t many shoulders for pulling over, which is unusual for highways in this area. We found a driveway but there was only a cattle guard and no gate and I couldn’t see a house but they had a sign:
I think they didn’t want me wandering back there to take a picture! Since this is Texas and these folks are real serious about meaning what they say, we left!
There’s one spot along Highway 16, which is the highway we travel to get to Llano, where a an outcropping of llanite can be found. Vince bought a piece of llanite from a local rock shop and I’ll get a picture of it later. But, here’s the outcropping that contains llanite.
From there we traveled on back towards home and went through San Saba, which claims they’re the pecan capital of the world. We stopped at The Great San Saba River Pecan Company and it was great! I think the lady told me they have 10,o00 pecan trees in their orchard and a dozen or so varieties. We bought pecans, reserves, and marmalade. There are 7 or 8 pecan stores in the San Saba area. We’ve visited several and this one was by far the one we like the best.
As we were leaving town, I saw a pickup with a trailer and a lady was outside holding this little goat. I said “STOP! STOP!” so we went back. I said “Can we see your baby goat?” She said “Sure . . but he just cr*pped all over me!” Yep, he had but he was so cute and so soft and it made me want a couple of little goats . . later.
This really is a pretty area of Texas and I know some folks who like city living wouldn’t be happy here but we love it and feel so lucky to have ended up in this area.

I’m so jealous. I love the area we live in Colorado, but I so wish I could live in the country. But I get my little piece of the county, I just got my city chickens.

Baby goats ARE cute, but then, so are most baby animals. Even the ugly ones are cute in their own way.
Those are some serious No Trespassing signs. We have a neighbor who has No Trespassing signs plastered all over his garage. I asked him what he had in there that needed so many signs. Said they all made me really curious. He looked at me kind of dumbfounded…guess that wasn’t the reaction he wanted. 🙂

We have no trespasing signs too, but as long as you promise to ‘first do no harm’ to land, people, or critters, and respect private property, and not be sneaky chances are I’ll invite you in for a cool glass of iced tea and a piece of pie. There’s a song that says, “Our houses are protected by the good Lord and a gun…and you might meet ’em both if you show up here not welcomed son”.

I’ve put the Crawfish Open on my calendar of things to remember for next year.
You must put Fredericksburg on your list. Make sure to go to Wildseed farms (I suspect you would love it) and in nearby-ish Kerrville is an amazing quilt shop. It is a must-go place. Enchanted rock is awesome too if you are up for a big of hiking to get to the top of the dome the view is amazing.
I’m so glad to find someone who loves TX…I get so tired of folks doggin’ on us. TX is an amazing and wondrous place (I’m only a little bit partial).

You haven’t been to Fredericksburg yet? We spent a couple days there while on vacation in TX last year. You & Vince have to check out the flea market. Vince will find some treasures, I’m sure!

Just love your wild flower photos. Well all of your photos really lol but, these struck me a so pretty today. Quite the outcropping of cactus there with those rocks. I love seeing your country side.

San Saba Pecan Pie mix in a jar is delicious. Get raves on that when ever I make pies with it.

My husbands family is from San Saba. He has some still living there, and we get Pecans from there often. He remembers as a young boy helping every year during Pecan “time”. Whatever you call it, harvest I guess.
