Several months ago someone told Vince about the Crawfish Open in Llano, TX. (Yesterday all day the website had exceeded its bandwidth and could not be accessed but I wanted to include it so you can see it later if you’re interested in attending next year.) Llano is about 1-1/2 hours from here. Vince took off work Friday and wouldn’t you know it, when we got up, it was dark and stormy looking with rain predicted. We checked the weather forecast for her and Llano and felt confident it would be a few short rains. By the time we were ready to go, the storm had pretty much passed over our area and we ended up with just a little drizzle and no real rain.
The crawfish festival is held on the Llano River banks and is a gorgeous setting.
The crawfish were cooked to perfection, as were the corn and potatoes.
There was a great band playing.
Everything necessary for a first class crawfish boil was right there — Porta potties, hand washing stations and the beer trucks!
Llano is as neat little town and they seem to have kept their small town charm. There’s not even a Wal-Mart there! There is a town square with shops, cafes, antique malls and other mom and pop type businesses.
They have a gorgeous old courthouse in the middle of the square.
And, there was a quilt shop in Llano, The Country Quilt Shop, which set me back just a little.
How could I pass up another great Texas fabric? This is such an amazing state . . in so many ways!
I’ll do another post this afternoon . . . we did a lot in one day! : ) We always know that moving here was the right thing to do when one of us looks at the other and says “Can you believe we live here?” Yep, this is a great place for us.

Oh, Judy! I love that Texas fabric! Can you read me the info from the selvage!? I am in a Block of the Month for Texas Our Texas … and that would make lovely backing fabric! I also have all the parts to Luv ‘n Texas, so I could use the fabric for TWO quilts. 🙂

I love that you love Texas! You know the saying …I wasn’t born here but I got here as quick as I could. People that haven’t lived here don’t understand the draw it has and how it becomes part of your heart. Glad to see you happy and you have so much more of Texas to discover.

Looks like I have to add Llano to our Texas itinerary. The more time we spend in Texas the more we like it. If you have a chance visit Gruene – beautiful little town on the river with a wonderful restaurant in the old grist mill.

LOL! Texas is going to have to start paying you for increasing our tourist business! And just wait…it gets better the longer you live here. Your roots will grow deep.

It’s wonderful that you’re so happy with your move to Texas. We don’t live in Texas, but I well know the feeling of being thrilled with a new location. We remain so happy with our move to Oregon and that happened many, many years ago.

After all the stuff…..I am so happy for you two to be so happy! Today, two of our sons are helping with the major part of our move. Tonight we will sleep in our new house! It will be another week or so before we truly get everything out of this house, and may be w/o the computer for several days….but I’ll have ‘settling in’ to do! Oh, and I really like that TX fabric too.
Amy @ Heritage Homemaker says
OH GOSH!!! I would love the fabric info, too! Gotta get me some!

One could not possibly cut that fabric into little pieces so it would have to become a backing. Really cool.
Sounds like you had a perfect day for your mini-vacation. Love those little one day jaunts.

Isn’t Llano just wonderful? I can’t thank you enough for your posts telling us about your new life in Texas. Having moved away from there not too long ago (what was I thinking?!?) I’m enjoying living vicariously through you. 😀

Did you also realize that April 21st, the day of this post, is San Jacinto Day? It is a day almost as close to the heart of many Texans as March 2nd. The Texas fabric is such a perfect purchase for that!
btw, I’m in Austin.
