Could this possibly be Monday? Nope . . yesterday was Monday! We can’t have two Mondays in a row, can we?
This morning I came into the sewing room before the sun was even up completely, with big plans for getting a top finished. Things were getting kinda messy in the sewing room so I decided to do a bit of cleaning before I started sewing and here it is after 3 p.m. and I haven’t even turned the sewing machine on yet!
I have two big fold out cutting tables but hadn’t been using either because I was using the work bench with drawers. It’s narrow and works fine . . I’m the kind of person who can work on 2″ but if I have 40″, I’ll have it piled with clutter and still be working on 2″. But, I figured since I have the space, I’d bring in one of the bigger cutting tables and since I happened to have seen it over in the shop, I figured I might as well retrieve it.
I don’t have a cutting mat for it. The last one I had was pretty chopped up and I think I threw it out when we left Kentucky. It’s a 40″ x 72″ mat and since they’re a bit expensive, I will keep a small mat on the area where I’m doing most of the cutting. The last mat had deep cuts in the 2″, 2-1/2″ spots and I had been using a smaller mat on top of it because of the cuts so it will work fine to have a small mat on top of the larger mat but at least I’ll have the measurements for borders, and larger pieces.
So, I stopped what I was doing, got online and found a mat and got it ordered. Then I pulled the fabric to use for my April Color Palette Challenge and have it sitting on one corner. The fabric for the current project was all tossed on the floor around the current cutting table so I folded it all up and stacked it on another corner. See . . I’m already piling it high with “stuff”.
Next, I decided to set up my big laptop on the table that’s in the sewing room. Then I needed a quilt to put on the table. I have a table cloth but figured I should have a quilt on there but nothing out in the sewing room worked to I sent in the house and dug around til I found one that would work. Then I decided this computer needed an upgrade to EQ7. That’s when the real problems began. Don’t ask me why I needed to set that computer up and upgrade to EQ7 but I felt the need to do it.
There’s no wireless internet out in the sewing room and I knew I’d need the internet to activate EQ7. I called Vince at work to see how many cat6 plugs there were. He said there were three. Great . . the phone uses one and the desktop uses one. He told me the third one was over by the TV so I moved the phone hookups over there so I could use the countertop for the laptop. I couldn’t get the phone to work so I moved it all back to the countertop and then I set the laptop up by the TV and still couldn’t get it to work. Called Vince back and he walked me through it all . . though I’d already done everything he told me to do. Then he remembered that the third line wasn’t hooked up in the house to the router so it wasn’t going to work til he did that. OK!!
The phone could be unplugged til I got EQ activated. Moved the computer over there, used a brand new never been used before upgrade for EQ because you can only have two upgrades but it kept giving me an error message so I had to call the nice and very helpful folks at EQ. They explained that you can only have one EQ7 upgrade password and ID per EQ6. I would have needed to buy a full version of EQ7 instead of an upgrade but they were going to check to see what I could do since I already had purchased and opened the upgrade. They found that I had bought two different upgrades for EQ6 . . I guess I ran into this problem already and had forgotten. So, I could use the second EQ7 upgrade on the second EQ6 upgrade and they sent me the ID and password for the other EQ6 so I got EQ7 installed!
Moved it over to the table, which will be my new workspace.
The sewing room is pretty much clean and ready to be messed up again!
I’ll keep the work bench in the foreground for trimming and squaring. I like it a lot because it has 8 nice drawers and it’s real handy having a second cutting surface.
This picture gives you a better idea of the whole layout – desk, sewing machine, cutting board, table with laptop, ironing board. The design wall is to the right of the sewing machine and the workbench cutting table is kinda behind and to the left of the sewing machine.
Now . . I’m going to turn the sewing machine on and at least make a few stitches!

I’m having a day like that, at least you know you got a lot accomplished!

Wow what a workroom/studio. Congratulations on sorting out your technical problem, I would still be trying to sort it out next week.

I could LIVE in that workspace! LOVE it!

I am so envious of your space! It looks wonderful. My studio is a mess! 🙂

Great space and I love the quilt on the floor! Glad to hear the tech issues have all been settled and now you can begin to play with EQ. It really is a lot of fun.

You’ve had quite a day!! That wandering from room to room sounds like what I do sometimes….just can’t keep my attention on any one thing for long. Love seeing the pictures of your sewing room.
Sue in Scottsdale, AZ says
Judy, your space is wonderful. I am so envious. Congratulations on getting everything put away and EQ7 up and running. I’d say you accomplished quite a bit today!

Just saw the news about the terrible storms in Texas. Hoping that you are staying safe.
Helen B. Ellen says
I’ve been thinking of you, too, hoping you are not near the tornadoes,
Texas is so big, and even though you’ve posted maps in previous posts, I’m not sure just where Brownwood is in conjunction to other areas.
I’ll be looking for your next post to let me know you’re fine.

You crack me up! I always find myself doing the same things. I make my mind up to do one thing, but there are so many small things to do on the way. Today, I was set on micro-cleaning the kitchen, but I needed a shower and the dog might as well get in there with me first. I let him out to go potty first, and I guess he caught the bath vibe, because he didn’t come back in for a long, long, time. So I transferred patterns to new folders on the IQ, cleaned the bathroom (except the tub), and finally went to call him because I knew he was avoiding me. Now I need to go and get my hair cut, but I will start cleaning — just as soon as I get back!

Whew. That was a one-thing-leads-to-another kind of day!

OMG…there IS a floor under there! You really overdid it getting your studio back in order after the retreat in Feb.! Love your ‘space’!
JudyL says
There were a lot of quilts out to get folded but had gotten those done pretty soon after the retreat.

It must be going around. I had a BAD day that started with locking myself out of my house without my car keys. Glad your day got better and you still have time to sew.
JudyL says
Oh, I didn’t have a bad day . . it just wasn’t as I expected and it took a whole new direction from what I had planned. Hope your day got better.
Linda says
Oh so much space…heaven!!

Love the daylight… my workroom is in the basement and its hard to go down there this time of year!
Sharon says
OMGosh I just love your sewing room…..it would be so nice to walk around my cutting table….you go girl!!!!!!!!!!

I took an all-day EQ7 class last weekend and learned that the person you get when you call “tech support” is the really nice wife of the man who ‘invented’ EQ. I took this class because of you, Judy. I want to have fun “playing around” with patterns and now that I’ve taken the class, I can!!

Judy, thanks for showing pictures again of your workshop areas. We’re in the process of getting bids to build me my own workshop. I have been searching your posts looking for the layout that you had posted but hadn’t had any luck. Not that I was trying to copy yours but just an idea as to your comments about why you laid out the room the way you did! Experience helps a lot.
Deb says
Nice room. Someday…maybe…
Oh, and love the new quilt in Quiltmaker. I looked at the thumbnail, and said ” that looks like a Judy quilt” and sure enough…guess you definitely have a “style”! You are making it harder and harder to pick my next quilt!
Good luck with it…
Lee says
I love the look of the quilt under your laptop. Of course, I’ve always loved yellow too, so that helps. Your entire sewing room is just wonderful, gotta love all that space!
