Vince is out painting the chicken coop. He’s painting the “grooves” first but I think it looks nice with stripes! 🙂
Speaking of chickens . . the little chunky chicken died. She just wasn’t right and the last day, I think she was hurting so . . whatever was wrong with her, I’m relieved that she’s no longer suffering. We now have 14 full size chickens and the 5 bantams. I could sit and watch those little bantams all day. They are so cute and so prissy! But they had been in the sewing room long enough! Even when their box is clean, they still smell like “chickens” with the wood shavings and the feed and the other things that Helen suggested comes out of chickens. Hard to believe it’s been over three years since Helen offered that unsolicited advice! : )
Anyway, the bantams are now out of the sewing room and the only living inhabitants (I hope) are myself and Speck and Vince, though he rarely comes to visit in the sewing room. I think he’s afraid I’ll come up with something else for him to do out here.
Life in the sewing room is back to normal — no chickens and the iron that I love! 🙂

Add some flowers and peace signs to the coop and it could be a hippy chicken coop. 🙂

Hee Hee! I stopped to read Helen’s comments again and laughed again! That woman was something else. Wonder what she thinks now you have had chickens and still surviving? Hmmm-got to Google that! LOL!

Stripes would be fun! It’s going to be a great looking hen house when it’s finished. Good job Vince and Co.!
Sorry about your chick. 🙁
Every time I read that post and all the comments, I crack up!

Here’s hoping the rest of your chickens stay happy and healthy. I think you’d like striped chicken coop about as much as you’d like a white one 🙂 But progress is always great to see.

I couldn’t wait to get mine out of the guest bathroom and into the coop! I couldn’t smell them myself (spring allergies took care of that issue for me), but Mike came home from one trip and looked in only to say “the bathroom smells like a barn”. Yep, it was time to move them!
Notice I haven’t said anything about painting the coop and my 2 gallons of paint are sitting here waiting for me to get my act together and paint the outside. I suppose I better get it done before he starts building the run…….. lol

Helen’s comments make me laugh. One wonders what the heck does she read on your blog or what doesn’t she read to think you don’t know anything about chickens. I think I would be almost insulted if someone said “you have to go get the egg”!! Even city gals like me know that!!!

DH wants a chicken coop , I will have to show him yours. Nice.

Let it be known that THIS Helen is not the Helen who wrote all the “Google that” in her comment.
I changed my name to Helen B. Ellen so that I’m not confused with her.
I think chickens bring you much joy, Judy! Some things take work, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth dealing with!!

Hey, those green stripes look pretty nice…they even match Vince’s shirt! I must not have been reading your blog back in 2009 or I missed that post entirely. Don’t hate me…I actually found it amusing…in a weird way. It certainly sounds like she hates chickens and everything about them! I’m sure it wasn’t amusing at the time for you! though. There were Bantams (Banties as we called them) on the ranch I grew up on. Their eggs are smaller of course. I always thought the roosters to be very pretty. I miss those days with all the critters. Keep posting your chicken pix and stories – I love them 🙂
