While I was in Hammond, Louisiana last week, several of us went to a restaurant supply store. I could have gone nuts in that store but since everything either had to be packed and moved or left at mom’s, I didn’t buy too much. I did buy a cupcake decorating kit. My niece’s oldest daughter is 13 going on 19 and she loves to cook with me so I figured she’d enjoy decorating cupcakes.
While she was at school, I made cupcakes so they would be cool when she could come over and decorate them that evening.
She was having fun and it was great to spend some time with her without all the other munchkins around!
It was trial and error since neither of us knew what we were doing.
She got them all decorated. They won’t win any contests but she had fun and I’m betting her younger brother and sisters thought they were delicious . . because they had lots of gooey, sugary icing on them.

It looks like she is having a great time – and I bet the lady behind the camera was too!! It’s great having time with the young ones!

They look so good and I’ve been thinking about making cupcakes and now I see this post putting more temptation in my way. I don’t NEED to eat cupcakes but my tummy sure thinks I do! Will have to see how well I can fight the temptation. But mine would not be fancy like those, just ordinary chocolate cake with frosting of some kind.

I agree. Beautiful girl. Hammond is a bit of my past. My grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins were there while I was growing up. My dad was a military officer, so we only got to visit. I loved that place when it was small. My grandpa owned the local barber shop for my whole childhood. Thanks for reminding me of my past! 2nd time today. The first was talking about green beans and saltpork with my local butcher.
