When we were doing the Big Star quilt, quite a few wanted the alternate border pattern.
The pattern for the Big Star quilt is here. This is the alternate border.
The alternate border is simply two squares and a flying geese unit. Two squares:
This is the block.
You will need an odd number of blocks on the top/bottom and side borders for this to work. If your border has 4″ blocks, your squares would be cut 2-1/2″ and your flying geese unit would be 2-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ unfinished. If your border has 6″ blocks, your squares would be cut 3-1/2″ and your flying geese unit would be 3-1/2″ x 6-1/2″ unfinished.
Make it as scrappy or as planned as you like.
