The instructions for Nicole’s Sofa Quilt will be posted beginning Monday afternoon.
The instructions to this quilt, and the other free patterns offered are linked through the “Free Patterns” bar at the top of the blog.
For those who have not done a Quilt for an Hour project with me, here’s how it works:
- Instructions are posted that should take about one hour of sewing. This is all explained in my Weekend Quilts book but you don’t have to have the book to work on this project.
- Remember that this is not a race. If it takes you a little longer than it takes me, that’s fine . . work at your own pace. The purpose is to break down the instructions into steps for those who don’t have a lot of time to make a quilt.
- Instructions will be posted Monday through Friday (in the afternoons for this project). No instructions are posted on weekends.
- For pieces like half square triangles, quarter square triangles or flying geese, the instructions will simply say “Make 20 half square triangles that measure 2” finished or 2-1/2” unfinished.” This is because there are so many methods to make these pieces and most of us have our own favorite methods. If you’re a new quilter and not sure how to make half square triangles, quarter square triangles or flying geese, there are instructions in most every quilt book, as well as plenty of tutorials on the internet.
Everyone ready to start on Monday?

I am. Have my fabric all picked out and ready to go. Still digging through my messy shelves for some brown but should be able to find some by the time I need it. All the colors just fell in my lap practically and that was my sign that I need to make this. I think I am going to use scrappy pink instead of one constant fabric but we will see.

I had all planned in my head what I was going to use in this quilt, fabric wise. Well I was in W*lm*rt the other day and saw their clearance rack. I usually don’t buy fabric for quilts at W*lm*rt, but this fabric is super quality! Nice and sturdy, no over prints. I have NEVER seen fabric like this at W*lm*rt before. The colors are near what I had in mind, but not exactly. I will share photos on my blog in a little while.

I chose the blue and brown/purple version…I think 🙂 love the colors on that one…might go with green instead of purple??? IT’S SHOP HOP in WA state !! Starts today…ends Sunday!! Perfect!!! I can look for a couple of extra peices while I am out and about…..I am working at the LQS today and Friday and maybe…a few more??? It is fun to see all the people, coming from Canada ( we are the first shop south of the border) and up from OR and even CA…Off to stamp, measure, cut and meet lots of new friends…Thanks Judy!!
