I'm still stitching on Rejoice Evermore by With Thy Needle. I love it and am enjoying stitching it. I took it to sit & stitch at the local cross stitch shop Saturday and got a bit more stitching done. I've kinda hit a snag. Those open vertical spaces are on the larger birds' wings. The called for floss is to use one strand of the more aqua floss and one strand of the greenish ...
A Day of Canning
This morning I started right away working on the yellow hominy and got it all canned - 12 pints. If anyone is interested in making hominy, Red Rose Homestead has good, fairly concise instructions in this video. At about the 20:00 point, she's talking about her jars, after canning, having no water - the corn absorbed it all. She mentions that her beans do the same thing. In my opinion, she's ...
Rejoice Evermore – More Progress
The rain really helped with my stitching time yesterday. I went out and picked the tomatoes but that took maybe 10 minutes and that's all the time I spent in the garden so that was extra stitching time. This is where I had stopped on Tuesday night. This is where I am now. I'm not even sure what those things are that look like rocks on both sides of the house - maybe just a pile ...
Chipotle Beef Soup
In September, 2023, I wrote this blog post about canning this Chipotle Beef Soup (link to recipe is included). I followed the recipe pretty much exactly ("exactly" isn't always *exactly* for me) except I may have double quadrupled the recipe because, according to the blog post, I ended up with 12 quarts and the recipe was supposed to make 2 pints. In February, I made 10 more quarts. Last week, I ...
The Gift of Gab
Chad can strike up a conversation with people everywhere he goes. Some of the things he tells me are so funny. No matter where he's working, he has a story to tell about someone (or an animal) he's met. I've probably told some of these stories before but there was a stray dog somewhere they were working. For Chad's lunch, he brings tuna fish, two boiled eggs and a couple more things. He told me ...
Progress on Rejoice Evermore
Yesterday I had a bit more stitching time than normal. We had a bit of rain - not much, but there's more predicted, so I didn't take time to water the garden. The house is all done and ready for the fill in. I stitched more leaves along the lower border and have started stitching some of the flowers. Maybe today I can finish that bottom row of flowers and work on the letters. ...
