Vince found a fruit orchard just across the state line in Kansas. It's about 40 miles from our house so yesterday we took a trip over there and got a bunch of apples, Asian pears and regular pears. The lady gave us a taste of everything and those are the sweetest apples and pears I have ever tasted. We had a great orchard near us in Kentucky but I don't remember the apples and pears being this ...
Knitting Bug
At least for the foreseeable future, cross stitching is my favorite hobby but I've been knitting a bit lately and really enjoy it. We've had a couple of short road trips without the dogs and I was able to knit in the car. This is the last photo I have of the project and it's from June, 2023. I had hoped to have it finished for this past winter. Didn't happen. I doubt it's finished for ...
The End of Canning is Near
I am getting very close to running out of jars. That's going to put a stop to my canning til I empty some jars or until my next Azure order arrives, which is the end of September. I may empty 15 or so jars per week but that's a combination of half pints, pints and quarts so it takes a while to accumulate enough to have the pints or quarts I need to do some canning. Yesterday we left the house ...
Elderberries – Done for 2024
One thing I didn't expect when planting three or four elderberries in 2021 was that by 2024, I would have way too many plants. While they can be invasive and I'm sure they will be at some point, this year they were such heavy producers and, while I wouldn't call them invasive, next year may be a different story. The easiest way I've found to harvest and use them is to cut the whole stem and ...
Can They Get Any Closer?
These two dogs crack me up. They "play" and I'm sure one of them is going to hurt the other. They're growling and snarling and snapping, then they wear themselves out and this happens. Perfectly aligned, as close as they can get, with their heads across my leg . . sleeping. Look at Oscar! He's so sweet when he's sleeping. His head on his paw . . not a care in the world but when he ...
Last Day of August Stitching
The end of July I wrote this post about my stitching plans. I had planned to work on Friends & Family from August 1 - 15 and I did. On August 11 I reached my goal on that one and started Rejoice Evermore on August 12. This is where I was when I started back to working on it. This is where I am today. I had hoped to finish this section except for filling in the house but that's ...
