This is a lap stand/frame that I purchased in February, 2021. I was new to stitching, didn’t really know what I wanted. I had no idea how quickly the house in Texas would sell so I figured this was something I could easily carry back and forth. I’m not sure why I never really used it.
It will hold frames that are 22″ to 36″. I only have one Rolaframe frame that’s big enough for the piece of fabric I have for Three Things Sampler so I pulled this lapstand out and was surprised at how much I like using it. The lap stand seems much easier to move around as I’m working across the linen and if I sit in a different position, I can have part of it on my lap and part of it on the chair arm. It also works sitting on a table.
The smaller one holds pieces that are 18″ to 24″.
I could be wrong, because (1) I’m using the larger frame for the first time and (2) the piece that’s on the smaller frame is what I put on there when I bought it in December, 2020, but it seems to me that it’s kinda like a longarm. I may have a 12′ table on my longarm and I could do a 120″ quilt but I could also do a 20″ quilt so I think, with the 28″ frame that comes with the larger frame, I could put any size piece of linen on it, up to a 28″ piece.
The larger one has my Three Things Sampler so you can see a bit of my progress.
On the smaller frame is Grace on Thee by Plum Street, which I started on Christmas Day, 2020. It’s being stitched on 32 count linen with two strands and I need to make a decision if I’m going to finish that piece or do something else with it. I love the chart. I don’t love the linen and I certainly don’t love using two strands.
The K’s Creations stands can be purchased on Etsy and they are much more reasonable, in my opinion, that some of the other stands.

That really does remind me of a longarm especially with the fabric attached to the dowels. I may ask my husband to make me a set of dowels with fabric to see if I like that better than what I have. It was the cheap one with just a split in it. It doesn’t hold the best but I made it work. I was able to get a lot done on the Three Things Sampler but will set it aside to try and finish Just One Rose. I started on the upper right corner and wanted to get at least one letter done. I thought I had finished the Q only to see I had done it wrong! I almost left it but since I shifted it over to the left, I took it all out. So there was ripping back on the first day of the year. I hope that wasn’t a portent of things to come for this year!!

I saw pictures where people would put a piece of fabric in the splits and then roll it around the dowel several times, leaving enough fabric to pin the linen to the fabric. With the fabric rolled around the dowels, it holds better. I may try that on those split dowels and see if it helps.
No . . not a sign of things to come! Just testing your patience early in the year.

I’m so glad that comment posted! I accidentally hit send before finishing my name…lol I was going to go back and type everything all over but then decided to walk away for awhile. 😀 Thanks for the idea about rolling fabric around the split dowel. One less project for my husband. 😀
