Most of the time, I do not use the called for colors unless I bought a kit that included floss. Any time I can get Victoria Clayton’s hand dyed silks, that’s my preference. Any time you’re looking for a “packet” of her conversions from the called for floss, click on the Silk Floss Packets picture and that will take you to the “kits” she has already packaged. They are there listed by designer, then chart. If she doesn’t have what you want, you can click on “Knowledge Base”, then Conversions, then DMC to HDF. Look up the DMC number and you should find Vikki’s conversion number. Or, if it’s a new chart, you can send her the DMC list and she’ll do it for you.
Her floss comes in a little plastic sealed bag with a list of the conversions. I tape that list to the inside lid of a plastic case (so the writing is facing out) and I can look at the chart, and say I need DMC 646. I can see that I should use NightSmoke 5307.
Here’s how the floss looks inside the little box. I order these from JoAnn.
I use those little cases for so many things. As of last night, they were on sale for $1.64 at JoAnn.
Since the list provided by Vikki Clayton doesn’t show the symbols, I always copy the part of the chart that has the symbols, then tape Vikki’s list next to it.
Now that I’ve somewhat mastered copying the chart, saving it as a pdf and importing it into Pattern Keeper, I can keep out the blue sheet (I use blue paper so I can find my list if I misplace it) out and put the chart safely away. I’m not going to blame anyone or any little dog but there’s a little brown and white, long, short critter around here that stays in search and destroy mode!

Nice that you didn’t name Oscar by name!
