This evening I took Oscar out for a walk and just past the edge of the house, a dragonfly landed on his head. I wasn’t paying attention but saw Oscar do some kind of weird moves and then I saw the dragonfly on his head. It flew off and kept making circles around Oscar, who was on a leash. I let Oscar chase him but the dragonfly was keeping a watchful eye on the distance between them. If I held Oscar and didn’t let him move, the dragonfly would swoop down just mere inches from Oscar’s nose trying to entice him to play chase.
I wanted to go in and get Vince but I was afraid the dragonfly would leave but after about 10 minutes, I grabbed Oscar, ran inside and asked Vince to come out. When Oscar and I got back outside, the dragonfly was waiting for Oscar and they started playing chase again.
Vince came out and couldn’t believe it. We were both standing there giggling and saying “I can’t believe this!” and “This is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!”
It went on for probably 20 or more minutes. Finally Vince said that Oscar was getting too hot and we needed to bring him inside.
I just took him back out and was kinda hoping the dragonfly would again appear but it didn’t. Maybe tomorrow!
I’ve never seen anything like that! Several people told me there were youtube videos of butterflies playing with puppies so I went and found some. Honestly, that’s just the cutest thing ever.

How fun! Wish you’d been able to video that – and I’m SO glad for Oscar that it happened. Maybe he is now aware that new things don’t mean its a danger, and sometimes its an absolutely delightful surprise!

Wouldn’t that be nice if it made him more inquisitive and not so afraid.

No videos??????? That had to be so hysterical yet so very sweet. Dragonflys are hatching out here in Seacoast NH so it could be a juvenile (delinquent).

I can’t hang onto Oscar’s leash and video, especially while he’s running in circles like a crazy dog. I sure wish I could get a video of it.
When I was in the garden this evening, there were several that all looked like the one that’s been playing with him so it may be more than one and they may all be juveniles just looking for fun.
