Oscar is the sweetest little puppy. He’s so loving and yet, he’s feisty and spunky. When he gets tired, he wants to be held and he wants to be close. I cannot cross stitch with him on my lap, mainly because I don’t want the bright light in his eyes and he won’t keep his head covered, even if he’s sleeping.
He likes to sit right at the edge of my chair. I sit in a recliner and if he is under it or right at the edge of it, I can’t put it down so I’ve pulled dining room chair up close to my chair and I prop my feet up in it. But, the recliner is a rocker so when I’m sitting back in it, the front is a bit off the floor and he will get partially under the chair so I have to use my feet to scoot him out a bit.
Last night I put his bed by my chair and was hoping he would learn to sit in that instead of right at the edge of my chair.
The first few days, he had nothing to do with the bed. Then he was getting partially in it.
Last night, he finally got all the way in the bed.
He’s also going in and out of his crate where the first day or so, he wouldn’t get near it. I think by the time he’s been here a week (Saturday), he’ll be well on his way to learning, or at least partially learning, what we expect and what we want from him.
After I begged for years for a dachshund puppy, last night Vince said “I wish we would have gotten him sooner!” But then he said . . “But if we had gotten a puppy sooner, it wouldn’t have been him so I’m glad we waited.” Vince loves him as much as I do!

Are you going to get a second bed for upstairs? And, how is Oscar getting along with your other pets?
judy.blog@gmail.com says
No. Other than cooking and eating upstairs, we’ll continue to spend most of our time downstairs.

It is great that Vince is loving him as well. Looks like Oscar found the perfect home!!

Yes, because if he didn’t, life around here could get difficult. 🙂

I’d love to know where you purchased Oscar’s bed from?

-What a sweet thing for Vince to say!
Since Oscar likes being in your lap, is he going along with the idea of being your dog? Sometimes pets attach to the person who is just along for the ride!
Bon says
I’m glad Vince likes him as much as you do.

You are so very blessed. That puppy will bring you so much joy. We are just too old now to take good care of a dog so we won’t have any more. I also wanted to tell you that your new home is the only place that I’ve seen that I like better than ours. Your time spent looking for the ideal place certainly paid off. Of course, I was born and raised on the 300 acre spread that we still own a 15 acre parcel of. My parents sold off most of the farm/ranch in their old age. We don’t have any neighbors that we can see or hear which we love. But, we are friends with the owners of some of the parcels of the original farm so we have dependable people not far away. Enjoy your amazing home and your sweet puppy. I read your blog but almost never post. Keep up the great writing!

That was my concern about waiting to get a puppy – old age! When Vince and I were at the vet earlier this week with Oscar, we saw several REALLY old people and when we left, Vince said something about that and he was also glad we went ahead and got Oscar now. None of us have any guarantees about the longevity of our lives but hopefully we’ll be around for the duration with Oscar. Speck lives to be 16 but that was pretty unusual for a dachshund.
Thanks for the nice words about our home. Out in the woods with no neighbors would make this place absolutely perfect but . . that’s not how it is so we’re thankful that we found what we found and more than anything else, thankful to be close to Chad and his family.
