I understand that in the grand scheme of things, our floor damage is minor. It’s easily fixed but I’m angry that it happened when it should not have happened – purely through carelessness, and I’m angry with the appliance store’s handling of it. They did send someone out to fix the connection. Vince had already turned off the water to the dishwasher and he could have fixed the connection but we wanted them to see the mess. They were going to send a guy out to fix the wood floors – someone who works for them and does wood working on the side. No! I wanted a real wood floor refinisher. It all happened Tuesday. I called about noon to speak to a manager and, of course, no one ever called me back. Late Tuesday I called back and our salesman, poor guy, happened to answer the phone and I told him what I thought. Next morning, which was Wednesday, the manager called me, he apologized and was nice, and told me they were turning it into the insurance and an adjuster would call me back that day. Here it is Friday afternoon and we’ve not head from an adjuster.
We found a wood floor refinishing guy here and one in Neosho. The guy from Neosho had excellent pictures on his website, and he does beautiful work so I wrote him last night and he wrote me back this morning. Said he had finished up a job early and could come by this afternoon and look at it. He did and we liked him a lot.
He wants to let it dry completely – keep the dehumidifiers going until late fall when the humidity around here goes down. He can’t get to the job til February so we had him schedule us for February.
There’s no stopping spot because it’s all one continuous wood floor – kitchen, breakfast room, two hallways, foyer and dining room. He said the curling in the kitchen will go down but it probably will not go back to being completely flat. Even if it does go back flat, it has to all be buffed a bit and resealed and with it all being one big connected area, it all has to be done at once. IF it doesn’t lay flat and he has to sand it flat, then it will have to be restained and the entire area will have to be sanded down to have no finish, then stained, then re-sealed.
We’ll have to stay somewhere else for a few days – that will be the worst part – a dog and a cat . . I’m tempted to put a tent up on the back deck and sleep out there. Could be kinda cold in February. We’ll figure out something.
The worst part of all this for me has been worrying about whether we could get someone to do the work because so much of what we want done . . the people just don’t show up when they say they will. I think we found a really good guy and that makes me feel so much better about getting it all fixed.

I don’t blame you for being angry one bit especially since this shouldn’t have happened! I love wood floors, we have them throughout our house and when we decided to take a wall out and make a great room we had new wood installed in the necessary area. We were told we needed to sand the whole house because trying to stain and finish one area wouldn’t work. Well, the new wood they put in of course didn’t have the patina of the old wood and even though we have an area rug there I was irked that that the folks our contractor hired didn’t try to match things better. We thought we could stay in the basement (2nd Kitchen down there) while the whole upstairs was sanded and stained. Boy, was that a mistake! We should have stayed at a hotel so if you have to go that route, do it. Even trying to seal everything off, some of the odor drifts. At any rate it sounds like the guy you had come by knows his stuff and waiting for the right person is worth it.

We ended up with a huge gash in our wood floor near the fridge. The fridge we waited for nearly a year to get in. It is not like they don’t know wood floors need a bit of care. Don’t go dragging a huge fridge across the floor and expect it to not scratch! We decided to not have it redone, because like yours, once you start, you have to go across the entire first floor. I put some stain in the gouge and it did blend in, so no one but I see it…every time I open the fridge!

These guys came in with some kind of sliding mats so they were real careful with the floors . . til the leak. Lucky for us, the fridge should arrive and get installed before the floors are refinished. When I was upset taht we might not be able to get it all fixed, Vince said “We’ll just put a rug over it!” Right . . I told him that every time I walk across that spot, which is about 500 times a day, it would raise my blood pressure!

If I were you, I would contact my home owner’s insurance and let them handle the appliance store. Worth a try.

I’m not going to involve them. It isn’t their responsibility. Plus, we have a very high deductible, which is about twice the cost of the refinishing. We’ll get it out of the appliance store. We’ll take the estimate to the appliance store and go from there. We told the wood floor guy that we’ll pay him and we’ll get our money back from the store so he isn’t having to deal with it.

Oh that would upset me, too, all of it, especially not hearing from an adjuster, though I suppose the store has no control over that. I hope this guy turns out to be exactly as he appears, even if it takes until February. He must be good to be booked out so far, though.
