Today was the first day I’ve met my goals on stitching A Changed World. I finished the text box and the border around it.
When I first started stitching today, I took it out of the frame and cut the fabric down. In the beginning, I just stuck the whole piece of linen in the frame and it was a bit hard to roll the piece up and down because the edges were in the way. Now that I know for sure where the edges are, I didn’t mind trimming it down.
Here it was up on the wall. You can see that I’m makingn a bit of progress . . not as much as others but I’m getting it done.
My goal tomorrow is to finish the bottom left flower and do the fill in on the bottom border and up both sides, at least as far as the top of the text box.
I’m hoping the other silk colors will arrive tomorrow and if so, and if I like the colors, I can stitch the two lines below the text box and start filling in the background of the text box. I will make a few stitches to see if any of those colors work like I’m hoping but that stitching will be for Wednesday if it does work.
Never got any stitching done on Let Love Reign.

Hi Judy, looking good. I have a question on how much bigger do you go than the actual design area? I have read they can say anything from 3″ to 4″ all the way around the design area! I just think that’s a waste . I have a sampler with a design area of 10″ x 32″. I can purchase ready cut linen of 18″x 35″. Do you think that would be enough? Hope you do not mind me asking in the comments box?

If I’m framing or finishing it myself, I’m not real picky. For framing, I’m pretty good with 1-1/2″ on all sides and wouldn’t hesitate to go just 1″ if the need arose. If it’s going to be a pillow, I’m good with 1/2 or 3/4″ on all sides.
If you’re having someone else frame your piece, you may check with them because most framers have specific requests.
Also, just as a warning, more often than not, linen isn’t cut straight. I start at the top left so I pull a thread at the top and along the left side. I’ve sometimes lost as much as a half inch. So, if you’r piece is 35″ long and isn’t cut perfectly straight and you lose 1/2 on all sides (because if you lose it on one side, you often lose it on both sides), then you’re down to 34″ of usable squares so that’s only going to give you 1″ extra. A professional framer might squawk about that.
If it were me, I probably wouldn’t cut it that close, simply because the linen I get is so rarely straight.
And, of course I don’t mind you asking in the comments. 🙂
