It’s hard to believe I disliked stitching this piece so much but love the finished project so much. The chart is The Rooster Alphabet by Modern Folk Embroidery. The floss is Victorian Motto and the color is Antique Tea Rose. The fabric is 32 count lugana dyed by Luminous Fiber Arts and the color is Sparrow.
You can see that I went back and added a few random squares because it looked a little bare without them.
Sheri from The Loopy Ewe loves stitching one over one on 25 count lugana so I thought for my initials and the year, I’d try it. Whew . . tiny little stitches on this 32 count. One over one on 25 count would be equal to 50 count linen. One over one on 32 count would be equal to 64 count linen. I’ll try it on 25 count lugana but one over one on 32 count lugana isn’t for me.
This was my first time to use lugana and I love it. Lugana is 52% cotton and 48% viscose. At least that’s the fabric content for the lugana at 123Stitch. Viscose isn’t a natural fiber but I still loved this fabric. It’s thicker and has more of a “hand” than does linen. I can pull my threads a bit tighter and it doesn’t seem to draw up the fabric threads. Sometimes with my stitching on linen, my threads don’t seem quite snug enough but if I pull them more, the stitching threads seem to draw in the linen threads. Also, when stitching in hand, the lugana doesn’t get wrinkled. In fact, I’ve stitched on it for 2-1/2 weeks and wouldn’t even need to press it before framing it.
I keep feeling like there’s a frame around here that would work for this piece. Maybe I’ll do a bit of searching tomorrow.
For tonight . . it’s back to A Changed World.
