Catharine Dickenson Progress

It was almost 8 p.m. before I had time to sit down and start stitching last night but I made a little progress. I am loving the colors in this piece. I watched a couple of floss tube while stitching and I’m surprised that the charts with the lime greens and purples don’t interest me as much as do the ones with the reds and greens, browns and tans. I loved making quilts with the bright colors but for the cross stitching, either my taste in colors has changed or the brights just don’t appeal to me in cross stitching. Of course, just like quilting, I could change the colors and go with any colors I like but for now at least, I’m mostly sticking with called for colors, or similar colors. Sometimes I have to change a color because I may not be using the same fabric as the sample and one or more colors blend into the fabric and are lost so I’ll change those or, I just can’t get the recommended color.

I had stitched the top row of stitching all the way across but didn’t start the side border til I finished that top row, just to be sure my stitches were all where they were supposed to be. Once I got the “S” done, and it was right, I started with the border down the right side. I started the red line underneath the first row of letters because I had red floss left on my needle but I’ll probably save that to work on when I’m doing distracted stitching. These letters are very easy to stitch, very simple, so I’ll probably start the next row of letters, then go back and finish the straight line stitching later.

Chad and Nicole are coming for an early dinner so there won’t be much stitching time today but hopefully this evening I can sit and stitch longer than I did last night.

… Looking good! I looked at the completed sampler and noticed that a few of the lines after the ABCs and numbers seem to be initials, perhaps a list of family members since most ended with “D “. Was there a short history of the piece included in the pattern? Are you going to stay with the pattern or create your own family tree listing or something else?

This is looking so good. I’m still trying to decide what to stitch next so may have to pull this chart out and see if I have floss for it!
