Another Day of Working in the Sewing Room

Sewing Machines are Set Up

I spent probably four or five hours working in the sewing room today. I worked probably three hours, came upstairs and stitched for a while, then went back down to get a jar of green beans for my dinner and decided to work a while longer.

I think I’m getting so much done but then I look at it still looks like a disaster area. Tomorrow, I am going to get two sewing machines and a serger set up. I haven’t found the Bernina 1230 yet but I do know where the 430 is . . but it isn’t my favorite. I found the receipt for the 430. Bought it in 2010. I wish I liked it but, at least to me, it just isn’t as good as the 1230.

The room isn’t ready for sewing yet but I’ll feel a great sense of accomplishment just seeing a sewing machine or two ready to use. There are only three more boxes left to unpack in the safe room. I may or may not get that done tomorrow.

Today I found a container of old cross stitch charts/magazines which kinda baffles me. I thought I only had one container of cross stitch things and this one isn’t it, plus, there are cross stitch magazines from 1992 with my address label on them so I obviously had a subscription in 1992 and I was sure all my cross stitching was done before Chad and he would have been 4 or 5 in 1992.

I do remember cross stitching something out of this book but that was when we lived in two houses before Chad. I think I made that Precious Moments piece in probably 1980. What’s even more weird is that we had a house fire in 1991 and all my cross stitch supplies where in a room off the sun room and everything in that room was lost. I had given a friend some of my charts, or she borrowed them (I can’t remember) and some of the magazines have her address on the label so I’m thinking she had the Precious Moments booklet and when she returned my charts, she gave me some of her patterns/magazines. That’s an era of my life I have tried to forget and it looks like I was at least partially successful.

I’m going to love going through the old magazines.

This is a sampler I would love to make.

I love these old world Santas and might make one or two of these some day. The date on that pattern is 1987.

And just to prove that some things never change . . here’s something that was started and not finished. I’m pretty sure he came out of this Nutcracker booklet. In fact, I think I have the piece upside down and he’s the stocking on the left.

I used to collect Nutcrackers and Precious Moments figurines.

There were probably 30 charts/booklets in that tub. So much of it was so 80’s and so much of it I just don’t remember ever having seen. The whole thing is weird . . have I not gone through some of this stuff in the last 12 moves/30 years? Kinda looking like it.

Wow that Precious Moments book brought back memories from when I was into cross stitching! I had forgotten all about that. Thanks for the memories.

I don’t know for sure how it worked but Boot will not attempt to go over those gates and he so easily could. If I forget and leave one open, he walks right through.

i smiled when I saw that Designs by Gloria and Pat booklet. I used to live in Sumter SC where these two ladies lived. They had a shop selling their designs and cross stitch supplies. I was a former cross stitcher, but my initial experience with them was as a reporter. I was working at the local paper in 1977 and wrote a feature article on them. I had several of their booklets. Once I started quilting in the late 80s I put cross stitch to the back burner, where it has remained. I even got rid of all my charts when we moved in 2012 (but I kept the floss since I sometimes use it with quilted projects). Thanks for the memory trip. Love your blog!

I have a lot of old booklets and charts to go through as well….but wondering if anyone knows a good place top “re-home” them. I really don’t want to throw them away….

Is that the stocking you wanted me to finish for Chad? Now you have the supplies you can do it! LOL This is great that you are finding all these and I do love the Santa ones!

No. I think that stocking I started may be needlepoint. I believe the design is painted on it but . . I don’t remember.
