A Funny Addie Story

Yesterday Chad was returning home from Detroit and Nicole had to pick him up in Fort Scott, KS. He told Nicole he would text her in plenty of time and let her know what time to come and get him. She didn’t tell Addie because she wanted her to be surprised. Chad texted Nicole and told her he would be in Fort Scott about 11. Nicole, her mom and Addie had gone out for breakfast and so Nicole was kinda speeding things along. She had expected it to be late in the evening but Chad and the others had left Detroit Friday and spent the night somewhere in northeast MO and then got an early start.

Chad was driving the biggest bucket truck his license will allow so I was being mom and being nervous but he assured me he fine with it.

Anyway, Nicole had bought Addie a pair of pants at a store in Fort Scott and she told Addie they were going back over there to see about getting more. Nicole was actually going to the lot where the work trucks are parked. Nicole said they were not even into the town part of Fort Scott yet and she looked behind her and Chad was behind her in the big truck but a ways back. She slowed down so she’d have to stop at a red light and Chad caught up to them.

Nicole: Addie! Look what’s behind us!
Addie: Is that Daddy?
Nicole: I don’t know. Do you think it could be?

Nicole said Addie kept turning around in her seat trying to see but the truck is so much higher than the car, Addie couldn’t really see the driver . . just that it looked like Chad’s truck. Nicole said she knew it was Chad because of the five or six trucks heading back together, all the others were staying in Kansas City.

She said Addie kept saying “I hope it’s Daddy! I really hope it’s him!” At one point, Addie said “I’m almost 100% sure it is him!” Nicole was saying “Addie, don’t you be telling me that if it’s not true because I’ll be so sad if you tell me it’s him and it isn’t!”

Addie in’t much of a joker and she was saying “I’m just almost sure it’s him!” I can just hear her saying that.

Nicole said “I tell you what. Let’s drive over to that place where they park and we’ll see who gets out of the truck!”

Addie thought that was a great idea. Of course, it was Chad and they were both so happy to see him. After all . . he only left this past Monday to go back to Detroit. ๐Ÿ™‚

I thought it was so cute that Addie was so excited and that Nicole was playing around with her and telling her “Don’t tell me it’s him if it isn’t!” They couldn’t have planned that better if they had tried.

That makes me so proud of Chad and Nicole. I always say that if the home isn’t a happy place, what else matters. Sometimes it takes more work than other times to keep it happy but I love seeing how their little family lives.

That’s so much fun! That behavior will come back to haunt them when they are all older, though. LOL
