I love using Mason jars for everything from leftovers to drinking glasses to pitchers for Kool-Aid. I have always used just a Ball screw on lid for jars containing Kool-Aid, tea, juice or leftovers but I didn’t bring enough wide mouth lids with me and haven’t been able to find them online. These are the regular lids and I have plenty of those. Chad had mentioned how expensive half gallon jars were and I told him I’d bring him some from Texas, and I did but then he asked about the lids. I had six jars for him so I gave him six lids, thinking I’d come across more in boxes, but so far, I have not.
Addie will drink “sweet tea” but I have cut back to about 1/2 cup sugar for the 2 quarts of tea. I used to use 1 whole cup of sugar! The lids I have for the jars are off brand and they leak and no matter how carefully I pour the tea, I end up with sticky residue in the fridge. I thought about ordering some two quart tea pitchers. After looking online and reading reviews, I decided I was happier using the leaking lids than ordering something new but then I saw a pouring lid for the wide mouth jars. They also make them for regular mouth jars.
I don’t fully trust the handle, though it seems plenty sturdy, and usually have one hand under the jar but these lids have been exactly what I needed. They don’t drip when I pour. There’s no sticky residue running down the side of the jar. Pouring from a full 2 quart jar, I never quite trusted my hands but with one hand on the handle and one hand supporting the jar, I feel confident that I’m not going to make a mess or drop the jar.
We drink a lot of juice we make from concentrate. I ordered three of these lids and have been keeping a jar of tea, a jar of Kool-Aid and a jar of juice in the fridge. The one in the photo happens to be grape juice.
Thought I’d share in case anyone else was feeling the need for a more secure and cleaner way of pouring from a half gallon jar.
