I’m starting to wonder if Vince and Rita aren’t going to spend winters in Texas and summers in Missouri.
Vince is wanting to turn the heat on . . in Texas . . in early September!

At almost 11 a.m., it’s 56 degrees outside. Vince said “How am I going to survive in Missouri?” I told him I don’t think anyone has frozen to death at 56 degrees or even much colder with a warm house with heat and two gas fireplaces. Plus, he has on shorts and a short sleeve T-shirt. I told him he’d be digging out his sweatpants. He said “I’ll probably wear sweatpants 3/4 of the year. Doubtful. Didn’t he spend five winters in Missouri just nine years ago? Surely he remembers that Christmas with all the snow!
Vince is thinking we should turn the heat on in the house . . “just for a few minutes to get the chill off”. We sleep with the air conditioner on 67 or 68 and he wants the heat on at almost 70. Not happening.
Rita . . she does not like rain but she probably hasn’t experienced it more than a dozen times in her life and 56 degrees . . she has no intention of going outside.
2.52″ of rain so far in September, and it’s still raining. We so needed that and so appreciate it.
I guess I’ll be knitting sweaters for the two fair weather members of my family.

That is funny! I’m up on the high desert of Idaho. Yesterday at 54, I opened up all the windows and doors for the door and left a window open for the night. Yes, we had sweatshirts on until afternoon when it reached 68 inside. No doubt he will live through “the cold” 😉 LOL. Not to worry, we will be back in the 90s in 48 hours!

I gave in yesterday and did turn on our heat – to take the chill off. But it was 45 degrees outside for the second day and the house had gotten very chilly. Glad to hear you are getting some rain finally. We are too, but not much. I’m just happy that we didn’t get the snow that the western part of the state saw yesterday. SD weather in September can be schizophrenic – jumped between 100 degrees and winter storm warnings in 48 hours. 🙂

I’m with Vince. I hate being cold.

I like being in a drier environment, whether it is summer or winter. So last year, I bought a few small room dehumidifiers. They are small enough that they can sit on a counter. I use them most of the time, perhaps turning them off when the humidity drops. It really helps in the fall when the weather keeps changing from hot to cold and back to hot. I have them in my bathrooms, laundry room, and kitchen. If the unit is full, there is an auto shutoff. The container is small, so I usually empty them every 2-3 days.

Our a/c has a humidifiyer/dehumidifier setting and we keep it about 55%. If we’re running the heat, I’ll sometimes set it to 58% because it’s so dry here anyway and the static electricity can get real aggravating.

I can’t wait to see Rita’s sweater! I like cooler weather much more than hot.

We broke down and turned on the heat this morning – the house got into the low 60’s and the outside temps in the low 40’s. High today (for us) is supposed to be 48 at 5 p.m. High tomorrow is supposed to be in the mid 50’s. With the precip (mostly sprinkles and a tiny bit of rain are keeping it super chilly.

Here in NE Wi it is 51 and a cold rain. I am COLD Have a wood stove I have been burning yesterday and today. It feels so good. I have a relative in Montana where it is snowing in the mountains around him, but supposed to be 90 Friday. Sounds normal Yes?
Judy Laquidara says
I guess we all just need to enjoy the break in the heat while we can. No doubt, at least in our part of Texas, the heat isn’t gone for good.

My stepdaughter used to complain of being cold, while wearing shorts and short-sleeve T-shirt. But she was a teenager; Vince is old enough to dress himself! My husband is quick to turn on the heat, but he also will add a flannel shirt in the morning, as he gets up before there’s a chance to warm up.
67-68 at night sounds so nice! We had to keep the AC on a couple nights this week (broke a heat record), and found that the former owners had programmed it for 90 at night. I just don’t understand that. I turned it down to 76! After a couple days set at 78 degrees (conservation; avoid rolling blackouts), we got relief yesterday, and it felt so nice at 74! (It went even lower, but that’s the point I looked at the thermometer).

In MO, we’ve been trying to sleep with the air on about 72 and dying. The house is larger than the one in Texas so it costs more to cool it, plus the solar buy back program isn’t as generous as it is in Texas. It seems like every night, one of us gets up and lowers it to 70 and then we still kick the covers off the bed.
Especially for those of you with rolling blackouts, I hope the heat stays away!

I often sit with a small fan on next to my chair while the hubby has a small heater on at his feet. I feel your pain.

My parents were always colder as they aged. Both had moved, separately to warm weather states, FL and CA. I think they forgot the dress code from living in NJ: In Winter, wear wool. If you live in polyester clothes in the winter of warm weather states, you will never be warm. I knitted my Dad a completely wool afghan for his couch, gave my mom several vests of wool fabrics. I figured they would never buy new clothes at 80-90 so I got them some things to keep them warm enough.
Judy Laquidara says
I keep hoping I’ll be colder as I age but so far, it hasn’t happened.

In Denver, we were 101 for a high on Sunday and 32 for a high on Tuesday, with snow. I am cold in the condo, but refuse to put the furnace on when I just had the AC on and paid a $300 electric bill to cool the condo for the month of July! We met the record for 73 days of above 90 temps for the summer. I am NOT turning on the heat! LOL
Judy Laquidara says
It’s funny how we make up our mind that we’re not doing things, even though we’re uncomfortable. I do the same thing. NOT turning the heater on in central Texas in September.

I started to call and see if you were home this afternoon. Pat wanted to go for a ride but we went to Riverside Park instead. I was going to see if you would meet me at the gate so I could give you the pillow top and your Christmas present from about 2 years ago!! LOL Maybe tomorrow unless you are leaving again. Sure makes it easier to do the chores inside now without the unbearable heat! At least we are not getting what Colorado and Montana are getting!! LOTS of snow!

Where’s his wool socks? LOL I love it when it’s that cool, I also love my wool socks, sweats, sweaters
