One of the things I like about being at the Missouri house is . . there aren’t many obligations there. I can sit and visit with Addie or knit without having so much to do. Once I unpacked what was in my car, and put it away, there was nothing else that had to be done . . well, after the peach jam as made.
This morning I got up and . .
- Watered tomatoes, peppers and pumpkins.
- Cooked breakfast – scrambled eggs with peppers and onions, flour tortillas, bacon and grits.
- Cut the okra. I’m getting anywhere for 1/4 to 1/2 of a five gallon bucket per day.
- Rinsed the okra and cut it up, put it on trays and put it in the freezer. Once it freezes, I’ll put it in ziplock bags to await a turn in the freeze dryer.
- Packed 5 boxes (which is my daily minimum number).
- Washed two loads of clothes.
- Helped Vince clean out the car.
- Made bread.
- Took the okra out of the freeze dryer. It ended up being 6 quarts.
- Changed the oil in the freeze dryer.
- Cooked dinner (Pork Tenderloin Masala).
At the end of the day, after having only packed five boxes, I was feeling like I should go get more packing done but then thought about everything else I had done and decided it was ok to spend the rest of the evening knitting.

Where will the freeze dryer go?
Yes, I’d say you “earned” an evening of knitting!

There’s a storage room in the basement that will stay nice and cool. It has tile floors and lots of tables/shelves so that’s the perfect place for it.

I can’t remember if you said this – since your freeze-dryer will be on the lower level, will the canning setup also be on the lower level? It seems safer to have the canning setup on a concrete base outside of your quilting room than to have it up on the deck outside of your kitchen.
It’s going to be so interesting to see how you set everything up in your new home.
Are you planning to go back up soon with more stuff? Or stay in TX until things are all packed? I imagine that not having the chickens to deal with is both a blessing and sad. Once the garden fades out, you’ll have even more time to pack.

I’m not sure where the canning operation will happen. There are advantages to doing it on the deck outside the main level and advantages to doing it downstairs. My guess is that I’ll end up doing it on the deck on the main level but we’ll see which way works out best.
We’ll be going back and forth often for a while. Vince is hoping to have the movers make the first trip towards the end of September. I think that’s a bit optimistic but we’ll see.

You make me tired just reading what you did.

I think you deserved that rest!!
