A friend posted a recipe the other day for making homemade hamburger buns. I used to make them often. Somewhere, I even have a pan for making the buns but I didn’t take the time to find it.
I used about 1/3 whole wheat flour and 2/3 storebought all purpose flour. I almost always use instant yeast so I added the water I would have used to proof the yeast and added it to the amount of water added to the dry ingredients. Also, since using the whole wheat flour, I added more water. Otherwise, I didn’t change anything with the recipe.
Vince grilled burgers and they were so good with the homemade, yeasty buns!
What’s a hamburger without potato chips but, we don’t have potato chips so I used the food shredder/slicer to make thin little potatoes and fried them. Vince said “I didn’t know you could make potato chips at home.” I told him . . forget that it can be done because once this is over, we’ll have storebought potato chips!

Living in Texas, you likely know that those thin fried potatoes are called papas at Mexican restaurants. They’re so simple and so good! Whenever we go to a Mexican restaurant that has them on the menu, I order them. I have no excuse for not making them. Although I’m currently working at home, I have a bag of potatoes on hand and the time to to do it. Maybe tonight!

Did not know that because I’ve never even seen them in the Mexican restaurant we go to. They’re probably there but I jut haven’t noticed them.

Maybe homemade potato chips are the solution to my chip dip but no chips issue! Those look really good- so do the buns!

I just hate dealing with frying and oil but . . sometimes you just have to do it.

That reminds me of a time a woman was demonstrating a fish fry coating in the store. I looked, and she started talking to me. I asked “is it fried?” and when she said yes, I said “I don’t fry.” She said “it’s really easy!” but I walked away because I didn’t fry. (Except potatoes, but chunky, not chips). Nowadays I will saute* chicken breasts, but I use a splatter guard.
*I think that’s not the same, because there’s barely enough oil to coat the pan.

I really detest frying anything but without potato chips in the house . . desperation was making me do crazy things.

You can also make these chips in the oven if you have time, and you can make tortilla chips from corn or flour tortillas. You can also take flour tortillas cut them in 4ths and spread with butter, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and they are a wonderful dessert!

Could you do chips in the air fryer? I have made fried potatoes and sometimes they get a bit thin, so kinda like a chip.
Judy Laquidara says
They’re not the same but yes . . you can make something similar.
