Rowing Machine

Taming the Skeins

A reader asked the other day which rowing machine we have and I apologize for failing to respond in a timely manner. I think about it when I’m not around the computer and then forget to do it when I am near the computer.

We have the Lifespan RW1000 Indoor Rower.

Obviously not me in the picture!

We’ve had ours probably 3 or 4 years and it looks exactly the same as the one in the picture and Vince said he believes the current price is the same he paid for it.

It doesn’t take up a lot of space. It’s very quiet. I’m not sure it makes any noise at all. I think if we have to have some kind of exercise equipment in the house, it’s a pretty good one to have. We’ve been pleased with it, though we haven’t used it nearly as much as we should have. That’s all changed in the last few weeks and into the future I hope.

It’s very, very easy to use and even though I feel like I’m getting a workout, it isn’t terribly hard. I’m up to 23 minutes. My goal is 30 minutes and I’d like to do that twice a day. I’ll probably be doing 30 minutes once a day by the end of this week. The hardest part for me is sitting there doing one thing. I think about clothes in the washer, cooking dinner, getting eggs, watering the plants in the greenhouse, knitting, writing a blog post .. it doesn’t matter if I’m listening to a book or music, it’s just torture to sit there and exercise but if it gets my cholesterol down, it’s worth it.

GOOD FOR YOU! My husband had a DVT (deep vein thrombosis) 5 years ago, and part of the meeting with the nutritionist was a food evaluation. She suggested tripling the amount of fibre in his diet to lower the cholesterol, so we added a ton of celery, beans, fruit with skins, potatoes with skins, etc. He was able to drop his LDL by 30 pts. In three months, plus exercising and watching the rest of his diet, including the sugars in milk products. We now get a low cal yogurt at our Fry’s (CarbMaster, 70 calls, 2 g sugar per serving) that has also been great with chia, hemp and bran added to it to up the fiber. Jill in Phoenix/Calgary

Wow, 23 minutes already! You’re doing great! It won’t take long at this rate until you look just like the woman in the picture!

Thanks Judy. I used a rowing machine in college and I really liked it. I’m hoping to find one to use here at home.
