A Doll Dress

Braiding Garlic . . or Not

Yesterday I came across a knitted doll dress pattern – Hannah’s Sweet Delight. This should fit Addie’s 19″ doll that she loves. It uses DK weight yarn and I knew I have quite a bit of that in quantities enough to make matching sweaters for Addie and Nicole. I went on a stash diving expedition!

This is Madelinetosh DK and the color is Neon Peach. This is a color both Addie and Nicole love. I’ve had 10 skeins of it in the stash for quite a while so I did a little digging for a pattern I can use to make them matching sweaters.

Addie loved my pink Dashi Jacket (hooded sweatshirt) and asked me to make her a pink one. I sent the picture of the yarn skein to Nicole and asked her to have Addie call me. Ambah O’Brien has a similar jacket pattern with buttons (Dashi has a zipper). I asked Addie (1) if she wants buttons or a zipper and she wants a zipper and (2) if she wants pink or this orange with a bit of pink in it. She wants the orange.

According to the pattern, I should be able to make Addie’s sweater with 800 yards and Nicole’s sweater with 1,245 yards. The patterns usually list the required yardage with at least 10% extra but I’m going to count on needing 2,100 yards. I’m making the doll dress first, which may take up to 200 yards. I should finish it today and I’ll know then. That comes to 2,300 yards and with 10 skeins, I have 2,500 yards. I don’t usually like to cut it that close but I’m sure the sweaters won’t take as much as I’ve counted on them taking so 10 skeins should work for one doll dress, one size 10 child’s hoodie and one Nicole size adult hoodie.

I’m thinking . . if I thought finding the right shade of pink zipper was tough, finding this shade of orange may be impossible but I’ll get as close as I can get.

Or you could use a pink zipper? I’m sure Addie will love it!!

Pink is way off. I can get much closer to the orange color.

If the yarn is an “in” color right now, it may be easy to find a zipper…or not. I think zipper matching has become hard for clothing too.

The problem is that everything I get, I have to mail order. Except for a very few zippers at Walmart, there’s no other place around here that has them.

Try ZipIt on Etsy! Lots of colors of zippers and great prices too.

It has to be a separating zipper and some of the places don’t have those but I’ll check there. Thanks.

I was able to get the pink zipper, after ordering five that were the wrong color, from Zipperstop on Etsy.

Our Hobby Lobby doesn’t have separating zippers.

You have quite a lot of knitting ahead of you, plus elephants! Does this fit any of your badge competitions or pointed needed?
