The experiments continue in the kitchen. We have kefir coming out our ears. We can’t drink it quickly enough. At least every other morning, we have smoothies for breakfast. Mine is kefir with a bit of collagen powder and one of the low carb “shake” mixes, a bit of spirulina and ground flax seeds. Vince gets some fruit, spirulina, ground flax seed and freshly rolled/flaked oats.
Left to right: Kefir cheese being strained, another batch of kefir (in a 1-1/2 pint jars because I need to bring more quart jars in the house) and kombucha.
A normal person would be totally confused to look in our fridge now. There isn’t a whole lot in there that looks like what you’d expect to find in a kitchen fridge. Jars of kefir, homemade buttermilk, homemade kraut and kimchi.
But, I’m having fun, Vince is enjoying what I’m making so we’re good!

Sounds like fun to me! I was thinking I might start a batch of kombucha this weekend. I haven’t made it in a long time, and since it would be just me drinking it, I’m not entirely sure I want to start on that road again…. I love my kefir, though! I’m glad you got yours going!

Sorta looks like my frige. Toby has his foods in another one and wouldn’t think of touching my lab experiments. He probably thinks my lab critters will crawl over into his foods.

I’m not going to tell you what’s in my fridge. It’s probably ALL unhealthy! LOL

Several years ago, before DH passed away, his friend’s wife introduced him to kefir. I about hurled when he brought home the kefir seeds (or whatever they were), poured the milk (or whatever) over them and left them on the counter. It was all I could take when he drank it a few days later (UGH, milk on the counter for days). Not something I’ll ever try but I hear it’s really good for you! HA
