Tonight I made a double recipe of Pioneer Woman’s Sherried Tomato Soup. Most of it went into the Freeze Dryer. I filled all four trays.
I set it to freeze for 12 hours and for the final dry to be 13 hours. I’ll be anxious to see how long the total cycle takes with the room being much colder.
It started at about 7:15 p.m. and I set it for 25 hours. The machine will set the middle cycle and I’m guessing it will be at least 10 hours.
My guess is this will all be ready about noon Sunday.

Does the freeze dryer use a lot of electricity? Guess it doesn’t matter much since you have the solar! It’s AMAZING all the stuff your freeze drying! Sounds like it’s good once rehydrated.

And will that become powdered soup, then?

Judy, I clicked the recipe and it looks really good and easy. I love tomato soup and would like to try it. But from a taste standpoint, what does the cooking sherry add? I’ve never had sherry so no idea if I would like it, let alone Mr. Picky. If I bought it and tasted it, would that maybe translate into liking/not liking it in a recipe? Should I get the cooking type or the drinking type? I really like sangria, could I use that instead? LOL LOL Then I would care if Mr. Picky likes it or not!! 😀

I just use whatever red wine I have on hand. I’m afraid sangria might be a little sweet though but I’m not sure. I think it was Malbec that I used yesterday.
