We’re all different and I can accept that . . different wants, needs, loves, dislikes . . but where I struggle with our differences is how anyone can not love Aldi. I guess I kinda explained that to myself one day when I walked into the Aldi in Springfield, MO. I’ll apologize right off the bat for anyone who loves or calls Springfield home but I haven’t found anything I like about Springfield. As much as I want to go back to MO, I would not consider moving to Springfield when there was an opening there for Vince. I don’t even want to live outside of the city because if it’s close enough for him to drive to work . . that’s too close for me. You’ll have to admit that I don’t often talk about things I just cannot tolerate but Springfield is at the top of my “Cannot Tolerate” list.
One day Chad, Nicole, Addie and I went to the Aldi there and when I walked in . . my first thought was . . I do NOT like this store. We used to shop at the one in Pittsburg, KS and the one in Joplin is new after the tornado so it’s real nice. Before we got ours, I often stopped at the one in Lawton, OK on my way back from MO. They’re always good . . but the one in Springfield . . not so good. But, the next time I was in Springfield, they had completely torn that store down and were rebuilding it so I’m sure it’s a great store now.
I love Aldi. I love going to Aldi even when I don’t need anything . . and that’s saying a lot from this non-shopper.
A while back . . maybe six months ago, I bought some lobster tails. I steamed them in the pressure cooker and they were the best lobster I’d ever had. The problem with Aldi is they’ll get something in and then it will be months before they get it back again. Things seem to rotate in and out with them and once I’m hooked on something, that’s a sure sign that it won’t be back in the store for months. Sure enough . . no lobsters. If I was anywhere near Aldi, I would run in and look . . nope, no lobster.
Yesterday Vince had gone down near Aldi at lunch and he popped in to see if they had lobster. YES! He called me and I went by there after knitting and got some . . not all they had but quite a few!
As I was leaving yesterday, I noticed they had a poster on the exit door about some kind of outstanding wine that would be in the store today. I was telling Vince about it and he said “Stop and if it’s less than $10 a bottle, buy a case.” I had to go to the eye doctor this morning and it’s right near Aldi so I went by Aldi first. The wine wasn’t out and the poster was down so I was thinking maybe they hadn’t gotten it in so I asked and it was still in the back.
Checkout Lady: You must really like this wine!
Me: I’ve never tried it.
That got me a funny look. The other lady working in Aldi said it’s won awards and has been very popular in England. I found this article about it. I’m anxious to try it. Apparently it went on sale across the U.S. today so if you’re in an Aldi, grab it while you can. I’m thinking it won’t be around long.
Another Aldi find today . .
I was standing there looking at them and thinking . . we didn’t get many peaches off our trees this year because the late May hail storm ruined them all so getting some peach preserves was a great find. A spoonful of this in my yogurt would be a real treat. I looked at the ingredient list to be sure they didn’t have high fructose corn syrup. Something didn’t seem quite right with the ingredient list. Then I realized . .
They’re candles! They smell amazing! Right now I have the lid off the peach one and my entire kitchen smells like fresh peaches.
They’re in Mason brand jars! They’ll be great for my salad dressings or to re-use for canning jams.
I think they were $3.99 each so they would make great little gifts.
It was a fun trip . . shopping alone in Aldi. It doesn’t take much to entertain me! 🙂

YUM!!! Count me as another one that LOVES Aldi!!! Wish we had one close, but, anytime we’re near an Aldi, we stop in and see what they have.

When we’ve talked about places to retire, having an Aldi nearby is at the top of our list . . right below good medical care and high speed internet, both of which are sorely lacking here.

I, too, love Aldi. We are soon getting a Lidle (spelling???) as well and I’m only hoping it will be 1/2 as good as Aldi.
The only problem I have with our Aldi is that too many people have discovered it!
Judy Laquidara says
I’ve never heard of Lidle. I hope it’s great too. Our Aldi isn’t horribly crowded but I try to go early in the morning. At least it’s mostly older folks like me there and not the weird, rude people that seem to come out in the evenings.
Mary Jo says
Lidl (correct spelling this time!) is a German grocery store. Not sure how many are in the US as of yet, but I know that in NC and SC there are several that have recently opened.
Cindy Kuipers says
I love Aldi, too! I do have the same problem as you…we find something they like, then we can’t find it again. But, that won’t stop me from shopping there.
Judy Laquidara says
To me, it’s more like an “experience” going there . . not like going to other grocery stores but again, that probably indicates that I need to get a life! 🙂
Verna says
Our Aldi is opening next month, and I can hardly wait!

I never liked Aldi’s because when they first opened here they didn’t take credit cards or checks. I never have much cash and I don’t have a debit card so I just never went there. Several months ago they changed their policy and now accept credit cards and I’m hooked. I find myself wandering thru there on a whim and I love the non-food items I find.
Judy Laquidara says
It was that way here too when they first opened. I was so happy when they started taking credit cards. I always felt like I had to limit myself when I was using cash . . didn’t want to get to the register and not have enough money.

I like Aldi too. We don’t have one in east Alabama but I used to go to the one in Bessemer whenever my children and I visited my grandmother. This was many years ago and my son was young. He didn’t like Aldi and he is very witty. He would call it “I’ll die” because he said going in there was killing him. I miss that place.

We don’t have Aldi’s up here in Maine, but have all the lobster you’d ever want from any super market. Me…I’m allergic to lobster.
debbierhodes says
In this backward state(Kansas) our Aldi doesn’t have wine.

I love Aldi. I think that there is a rhythm to when their special stuff is available. Some of the stuff is in very limited quantities and disappear very quickly.
