Another Dot

December Already

It was back in October that I got my first Echo Dot from Amazon.

Dot (on top of wheat grinder)

Dot (on top of wheat grinder)

I’m still so smitten with that thing. First, I feel like I have to say this: I’m not trying to sell anything, I’m simply sharing what a cool gadget this is. If you need a gift in this price range, I can’t imagine someone not loving this.

We ended up ordering a few more of the Dots because we’re so impressed with them. One is in our bedroom and we ordered the smart plug and now I can simply say “Echo, turn on (or off) lamp” and she does it! That Dot is not hooked up to an external speaker but it sounds fine so I can listen to music with it just like it is — nothing else paired with it. Vince had to leave early this morning so I was able to listen to my favorite local talk radio show via the Dot in the bedroom for a few minutes before getting out of bed.

The one I’m most excited about is in the sewing room, and I’m excited that Vince got wifi hooked up in there. Even typing this, I feel like I sound lazy but . . I’m just being honest. When I’m in the sewing room, I’ll get to sewing or knitting, while listening to music and lose track of time. Sometimes I have clothes in the dryer that I need to hang up. Sometimes I need to remember to go back to the house and let the dogs out. Sometimes I need to get back to the house and get lunch or dinner done. I can now say “Alexa, set alarm for 10 a.m.” or whatever time I need it. The alarm will sound and hopefully I’ll remember why I set it! Maybe I could say “Alexa, at 10:00 a.m. remind me to go to the house and fix lunch!” I could set an alarm with the phone but I don’t take my phone to the sewing room with me because I have no signal over there and I’ll end up leaving it in there.

Also, if I think of something I need to add to my shopping list, I can do it with the Dot in the sewing room. I can listen to music without having to mess with Pandora on the computer.

Any question that runs across my mind .. instead of getting up and going to the computer, I can simply say “Alexa, what’s the date of Thanksgiving, 2017?” or whatever question I have.

I can’t say enough good about these little Dots. And, they’re easy to hook up. I’ve done all three so far and I am not very good at those sort of things. If I can do it, anyone can do it!

I’m so glad that, despite Vince being quite skeptical, I went ahead and ordered the first Dot.

Based on your initial post, I put the Dot on my birthday list – and it about 2 weeks ago. I love it! So do my teenage and 20-something kids! I told my mom and sister about it and now they are ALL, plus my nephew, getting one!

Thanks for the tip – not sure I would have given this a second look if you hadn’t talked about it….thanks!

I bought one about 10 days ago and within 2 days I already wanted more, so when they were on sale and you got the $10 off by ordering through Alexa, I jumped. Now I think I should have bought more! When I initially looked at them, I wondered who would want a bundle of 6 of them. Ha! Me! I can hook it up to my whole house speaker system and listen to music anywhere. I love to be able to skip songs or change up the play list.

Have you opened a ‘box of cats’ with Boots in the room?

You talked me into it. I have grown children who are not too helpful with Christmas ideas. Two of them are now getting the dots. I used your link to order them, hope that means you get some credit.

I guess I’m way behind in the gadgets category! I have no idea what an Echo Dot is, who sells them, or why anyone would want more than one.
