Was he hungry or just being a devil cat?
At the beginning of every week, with my menu in hand, I head over to the shop where I retrieve the frozen food and jars I will need for a few days. It helps not to open the freezer every day and it keeps me on track if everything I’m going to need is in the kitchen. The first stop was to get the jars needed from the sewing room. I had 5 jars and knew I shouldn’t try to carry more than four to my basket which was sitting in the shop. I put down the jar of Sweet and Sour Chicken and was going to go back and get it but the UPS guy drove up and I met him, got the packages I needed, took them in the house, went back to the shop to get the food from the freezer and totally forgot about the jar of Sweet and Sour Chicken.
From a distance, because of the light on the lid, I could see the indentation in the middle was up, meaning it was no longer sealed. Oops .. that’s not good. Then, when I got closer, I realized there was a hole in the lid.
Boots! That is the only way that hole could have gotten there. I still can’t believe he did it but the jar was sitting on the cutting table. There’s nothing sharp around so I’m thinking there’s just much else that could have done it.
It went all the way through the lid. I checked his teeth to be sure he hadn’t broken a tooth and he hasn’t. I’ll definitely be more careful about leaving jars around him.
Do you think it’s possible he did it? If not . . what else could have happened. There was no hole in the lid when I retrieved the jar from the closet so it happened while it was sitting on the cutting table. No one else has been in the sewing room . . I just don’t know that I believe Boots did it though.

Maybe he was just jealous cause Rita was getting too much space on the blog !!!
My kitty just chewed up the cord to my little Mighty Bright lite – so, heck, yes, I think he did it ! Kate

Yup! He did it! My cat will do that to bal jars if I leave them on table! Also he will chew on towel racks, toilet paper holders, and other items! Oh he loves the metal lamp light on my grace frame! So I think Boots did it! Mischievous little guy huh! But so darn cute!

Mine chews cords but I don’t know how he’d do THAT! Was the ring still on? If so, that (in my way of thinking) would make it even harder for him. I dunno, though, these goofy animals always find ways to surprise us.

Rita and Boots were out in the street, before you adopted them. That makes for very creative and innovative animals!

Boots probably just wanted to try it! I am sure it will still be safe to eat and delicious! Give the beast a bite when you DO have it for dinner!

Oh, no . . it was dumped. It sat there for at least half a day at room temp after it was “opened”. Though I’m 99.99% sure it wasn’t like that when I put it on the table, what if it had been compromised for weeks? Nope . . not taking that chance.

I don’t think Boots did it. There would be at least some other indentations if he had used his teeth or claws and the hole isn’t round as a tooth or claw is. I think he’s innocent and it got punctured some other way.

I have a Siberian cat (that I am fostering while his owner gets his act together) and I put nothing past that cat. He is so sweet when he wants to be, but he can be a “devil” cat when he wants to be. But in his defense; he did have a rough life before coming here and being pampered. So some of his umm devilish ways I am sure are because of his being pampered. He is a huge cat (like a Maine Coon) and some people are afraid of him, oh heck he is just a sweetie cat most of the time.
We left some peanut butter fudge on the counter (as I had just made it for the daughter and her family’s Christmas appearance this weekend) to run over to his parents house (they live right next door) we were there for maybe 30 minutes and came back the cat was in front of the fire place as if nothing had happened. He ate over half the fudge!! Through the saran wrap and foil. All I could do is laugh ….

Wow! Amazing. I don’t doubt he did that. He was lucky he didn’t get stuck in the jar. Mine would have, and it would have cost me $1000 at the Emergency Vet.
Yep, my ER Vet has nice vacations courtesy of me and mine…………
