A Funny Yarn Story

I love it when things work out like this. Since I’m really determined to use what I have here, and not buy more yarn, this incident made me smile.

Laura Aylor, one of my favorite knitting designers, is having a special “Just for You” project. The info and how to get the pattern free until December 18 is available through the link. I signed up to get the pattern but I don’t have much Bulky weight yarn sitting around. In fact, I doubted that I had any. It isn’t something I stash. I’ve bought it a few times or specific projects. The pattern calls for 340 yards of Bulky weight yarn. I figured I would get the pattern while it was free and watch as others made it (It’s a Knit Along of sorts), and if I love the design (it’s a mystery of sorts too), then I would order the yarn.

In one of the extra bedrooms, the bed was piled pretty high with yarn. While cleaning and sorting, I came across one skein of of Dream in Color Groovy on the bed. The color is Lipstick Lava . . kind of a pinky/orangy/red. I wasn’t sure why I had even purchased the yarn. I stuck it aside and was going to toss it into a “What Was I Thinking?” tub. As I was going through yarn that was in grocery sacks, mostly all with the pattern that yard was intended for, I came across a bag with two more skeins of Lipstick Lava. I thought . . wait a minute . . isn’t this the same yarn I found in the bedroom?

Yep, three skeins! Laura’s pattern calls for 340 yards. I have 360 yards. That’s when you love your stash! It isn’t the color I would have chosen for me. I think I had intended to make something for Addie but I cannot figure out what it was, so I’ll use it for Laura’s project and that will be 3 skeins used!

I can’t pass up anything that’s free. So now to see if I have something here that will work!

I had promised myself I would not start any more mysteries, but then somehow I found myself getting the pattern, and I had to buy some yarn because I only had 200 yds of bulky.

I joined the Just For You project last week. It will be my first Laura Aylor pattern. Can’t wait!
I also got my crawfish last week. Gorgeous! Just one skein. What could you make with one skein that’s NOT socks?

I remember you talking about lipstick lava. I loved the name. By the way you were going to make the gaptastic cowl with it. If you were wondering. Lol

That color is just yummy. Fall colors are not good for me. I love everything you make. This color is just so me, along with rich purples, blues, greens. I love it and whatever you make will be gorgeous.

Judy, I just went wild on Craftsy the other day and ordered yarn and patterns and needle I don’t have. So, here’s hoping I threw in some chuncky yarn-although I haven’t checked my stash yet. If all else fails, I will just use 2 strands of worsted weight together to get my “chuncky” yarn. This should keep me busy after foot surgery on Dec. 29th. Fixing an old arthritic joint that has been bothering me for the last year and i just got tired of my foot hurting!

Okay, now I have lots of chunky yarn and can’t get to the pattern! Hadn’t gotten registered on Ravelry until today and just can’t find the update to the QAL! 🙁 And Laura says she can’t resend without resending to everyone. Waaaahhh! I want to knit and no pattern!
