Hay Cove is the test knit I’m working on for Laura Aylor. The pattern isn’t available yet but I love this pattern. I know . . I say that about every one but this one I really love. This is probably the heaviest sweater I’ve made. The yarn is Cascade 220® (not superwash) and it’s much heavier than the superwash version and I love it. At first, it feels a little scratchy, especially compared to all the hand dyed yarns I’ve worked with, but after a while, it doesn’t feel scratchy and I’m so anxious to see how it’s going to feel once it’s soaked and blocked.
Here’s the sweater with everything done except the button bands and the collar, and of course, weaving in all the tails. Excuse the hair . . I’d been out working in the garden (but the truth is . . it probably always looks that ratty on the back side!).
The sweater isn’t too heavy and will be perfect for our winter. I’m thinking I might want to make one that’s more neutrals . . I’m thinking of a dark tan in place of the brown deep gray (the color is Jet) and then some lighter tan and creams.

Love the colors!

Had to look twice when you mentioned the brown. Guess my computer colors are way off, because it looked olive green to me! Definitely a pretty pattern…. wish I could knit well enough to do a cardigan for myself. One of these days….

No, it isn’t your computer . . it’s my early morning typing when the brain is still sleeping. It’s actually a very deep gray. I changed it from brown to deep gray. Sorry.

I love your sweater! I’m a huge fan of heavier sweaters and yours is beautiful.

that does look nice! i could even see it in the modern Christmas colors of red, white, silver, lime green, and ice blue.

Love the sweater. Reminds me of the heavy duty decorative zippers you see on everything. Truly believe you have more sweaters than winter days!! Enjoy seeing all of them.
JudyL says
You may be right and the real problem is that I so rarely get dressed in decent clothes that one sweater would probably be enough!

Your sweater looks amazing! And I think your hair looks good too.
Joyce says
The colors in your test knit are lovely too, though.

Gorgeous!

I really like this sweater. It may be my favorite so far.
Carole says
Donna took my thoughts exactly … this is definitely my favorite so far.

It is a really, really neat sweater! Wish my hair would look as good as yours if I’d been working in the garden!! 😀

Love it! You have inspired me to learn to knit. I started in January and have knitted several scarves. My next challenge will be socks. Not sure I will ever be up to a sweater! I love seeing your projects. Thanks

Love it! Hurry up and finish so we can see it from the front!!!

Ooh, I like it! I especially like the repeat of the light color top and bottom: it unifies the colors as much as the dark gray.
I didn’t realize your hair is so curly! (Not ratty).

You have quite the list of want to do’s in knitting. I am just curious what your motivation to test knit is? She has really put out some lovely patterns and you do beautiful work.
JudyL says
I find it challenging. First, it all goes so quickly. Laura usually shows the design (whole or in part) and calls for testers. If I want to test, I have just a few days to choose the yarn, get it ordered and get started. I’m usually a few days late because my yarn has to be mail ordered. Then I have about 3 weeks to get the sweater done, blocked, photographed. That’s a challenge but it’s fun and keeps me hopping.
I also find it challenging to read the pattern, try to think how inexperienced or experienced knitters will interpret the instructions and let Laura know if I see any errors or suggestions as for wording.

Thanks for your reply. So have you found issues in any of your test knits? I have tested quilt patterns before so I understand the challenge.

You are such a super fast knitter! I love this sweater and can’t wait till the pattern is out. Cascade 220 is great yarn although I usually use the superwash. I like the heritage sock yarn also, paints especially!
