The scorpions may scare me, the rattlesnakes have me choosing boots over flip flops. The critters have me screaming that I want to move to a more civilized place.
Thursday night we had just a little rain. Out at the lake, they got over 2″ and that’s great. Wish we had gotten more but am happy to have gotten the heavy drizzle that we did get. During the night, we had lots of lightning and it was a beautiful show.
Yesterday morning I walked outside after the rain .. things seemed clean after having been washed by Mother Nature.
I look over and see the chicken coops, the peace and quiet of no neighbors, no horns honking, no brakes squealing, no stereos booming. The only noise is the symphony of about a dozen roosters, all of which have different crows.
I sit in the recliner, facing the window and from inside the house I watch road runners chasing grasshoppers, I see a mama turkey with a few young poults following her around, there are plenty of deer to watch, squirrels are busy putting away food for the winter.
A few scorpions and rattlesnakes aren’t going to chase me away from here. This is the place that for so many years I’ve dreamed of having and I hope we’re here for a very long time.

Isn’t it wonderful what a good night’s sleep and a little rain can do?
I always say that every place has its dangers (I’m usually thinking of weather or earthquakes); you just have to choose which ones you can tolerate. You certainly have found the balance weighs well toward the good!

I wouldn’t live anywhere else!! (Yet I don’t have the quiet, the wildlife, the acreage you have). Ain’t nowhere else like Texas! LOL

I hear ya .. We have moved to our final place! We plan on retiring here and this is it .. WE have hunting (elk, deer, turkey etc…) and we are just happy when we sit outside each night and see the stars, our solar lights, the toads, garter snakes(eek… watch me RUN !!!LOL) and no horns, we have neighbors most are nice, even with DH’s parents living next door, its nice and quiet (as they can never see if we are outside due to the length of the extended 3 car garage (making an L shape).
Hope you are doing better each and every day !!

Always have to take little good with the bad, and your bad critters are manageable as long as you’re careful. I so enjoy reading about your little slice of paradise. I can imagine it’s worth a few snakes and scorpions!

I love Texas. It will always be my home. I’m glad family are still there so I can go visit (especially during the Missouri winter).
