We both love rye bread and I’ve tried several recipes through the years. This one is our favorite. Yesterday, when I wasn’t feeling like eating much, I thought . . I want rye bread so I made this. Here’s my very favorite way to have rye bread . . next to a sandwich or peanut butter on rye toast! 🙂
Start with a slice of rye toast. Add mozzarella cheese and stick that under the broiler til the cheese is melty.
Add a bit of chopped fresh basil.
Add sliced tomatoes, fresh from the garden, of course! Salt and pepper to top it off.
A yummy and fairly healthy snack.

Judy could you do this in bread maker? Just 1/2 the amount and let it do the work. I’m lazy and don’t won’t to make it the traditional way. We like rye bread and love Ruben sandwiches make with it. But after coming back from Italy I would love to make your sandwich above looks divine.

also little off topic but figured you’d see here, about American Girls in case you haven’t seen it go to Nancy’s Notions site/catalog, they have tons of patterns and special groupings of different shoes, tights, buttons, zippers, trim, embroidery designs all geared to AM Girl doll size. They also have some “fake” dolls.

That sandwich looks yummy! My favorite rye bread is Buttermilk Rye from Bread Machine Bounty. I practically lived on it and tuna salad about 20 years ago.

Seeing your rye bread made me think of my Dad. When he retired he decided he wanted to bake bread. He made rye bread…not sure what he did, but it was only about an inch and a half tall. It was so hard we joked he was going to have to cut it with his table saw. He did get better at it after a while…

That looks delicious. I will have to try it IF we ever get any ripe tomatoes from the couple plants we have out. So glad you got your much needed rain.
