The monthly prepping challenges are going to be more about getting us to think, and learn from each other, than to actually put ourselves in a bind, as some of us might find ourselves in a real life situation where our prepping skills have to get us through. If there’s something you need, get it! But, learn from the experience. If we cannot make it a week without going to the grocery store, we have lots of room for improvement.
Each night, about 7 p.m. central time, I will post a blog entry sharing how things went at our house. There will be a link box and I would like for you to write a blog post and share a link. If you don’t have a blog, feel free to leave a detailed comment.
Don’t forget . . this it not designed to have you suffer or do without things you need, but my hope is that we learn and we need your input in order to learn from each other.
The May Challenge: Monday, May 12, through Saturday, May 17
Eat all your meals, snacks . . everything you consume (including drinks) from your home. It can be canned food, frozen food, from your garden – whatever you can find without going to the grocery store. If you work, try to take a lunch using foods prepared at home from the items you have on hand. If you have children, try giving them snacks that you have on hand.
For this week, no going out to eat, no ordering pizza — you’re on your own! 🙂
Remember that we have advanced warning for the challenge. In a real life situation, you may have no warning.
Reports:
Links will not be live until the blog post are made each evening at about 7 p.m. central time.

Great way to start…this will be an easy week for me!!

Hmm, have to hope for a cool day for baking, then! I have nothing store bought snacky in the house, because I ate it all! I almost always eat my meals from in-house, though. Milk or OJ is about the only thing I buy in between grocery shoppings, and sometimes those are a month apart.

This is going to be difficult for me for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday as we are going out of town for a family recharge time. We normally eat almost all of our meals from in the house, so I will have to do this as of Wednesday night on. Looking forward to this challenge!

This is normal behavior at out house.

You had to start this just as our kitchen has closed down for a total remodel! lol

I can’t wait to see what your readers write. Everyone laughs at me..we are very rural. You might like that, Vince wouldn’t be able to drag you shopping very easily. Wal Mart and any other big box stores are 65 miles away. I keep a running list on my smartphone, so if anyone is making a trip, I can text them the list that is needed for our house. We eat almost 99% of our meals here at the house, because not only do we have to drive quite aways to eat out..we are also on the verge of the Bakken oilfields so everything is super expensive!
Cathy says
I love the idea of that running list on the phone. I really need to get into that habit myself.

I had to start a wee bit early as I was planning to grocery shop last Wednesday and ended up with a sick boy home with me through the end of the week. No shopping until Saturday. Good thing I have a fully stocked pantry and freezer. Homemade bagel chips with bagels from the freezer and some creative meals and we managed just fine =).
