Solar Update

Sparkler Progress

Tomorrow, if all goes as planned, we will sign the contract for the solar panels to be installed. The installation is scheduled for mid-April. I find this all so exciting! Yes, I should get out more! πŸ˜†

Buildings

Buildings

Above is a layout of the buildings. The solar panels will be installed on the middle building, which is the shop. We’re so lucky that it’s close to perfect as far as location to the electric meter, almost south facing, with no shade.

We chose a company out of Austin to do the work. Since it will be April before it’s installed, and since our electric company is about 6-8 weeks behind on the net metering, that means we will not have kW credits in our “bank” so we will probably be paying partial electric bills at least through September but hopefully, by then, we will never have to pay an electric bill again. Β Time will tell . .

I’m just happy to have the decisions made .. the company to do the work, the type system, the electric company we’re going to use .. now we can move on to the next exciting project and I think it has to do with . . birds! πŸ™„

I wish they would drop the prices on those and give us more incentives for using them. I love that you are.

Great on the solar system. But on the birds, does this mean MORE birds??? Or rearranging those you do have??? πŸ˜‰
    Hugs!!!!

    How exciting!
I;m curious…when you raise birds, will that count for your farming like the cows or goats? Inquiring minds. πŸ˜‰
Raising birds makes me think of my Uncle Don and his fryer farm……20,000 birds–he never called them chickens.

My inital reaction to birds was not to think of chickens but then it danwed on me it could be chickens. Good luck on the colar adventure. I tried looking into it but ran into too many roadbloacks to find the info. I may try again soon now that I see your progress.

I looked at solar for us about 10 years ago. It had over a 50 year payback for us at that time. I assume it’s a lot better now! Plus I think Texas is a much better location then Virginia. It’s exciting and I look forward to hearing how it goes.

So excited for y’all!! I’d love to see more & more people going solar … as with most things, the more of us who can do it, the lower prices will go … If we ever get to retire in NM like we hope, we’ll be going solar too!

That will be exciting not to get a bill from the electric company every month … All you have now is the solar panel bill …LOL One way or another, that is still a bill to be paid. I DO understand the reasons for switching to solar, I just thought it funny when you said “never have to pay an electric bill again”.
