Four or five years ago, I was on a striped fabric buying frenzy. At that time, I thought I would use the stripes for borders but rarely do. The pretty striped fabrics often do help me choose fabrics for quilts, even though I may not use the striped fabric that was the guide to help me choosing the fabrics.
Yesterday as I began looking for fabric for Blame Game, the plan was to choose any two fabrics that were shaded correctly to give the transparency effect. As soon as I walked into the fabric closet, I spotted this pretty striped fabric and seeing the peach and salmon stripes, knew right off what colors I would try to use.
The fabric is Heart Throb by Free Spirit and I’ve had it probably at least 3 years, maybe longer. I may use it in the wide non-pieced border or I may not use it at all.
I pulled some fabrics and I think the sewing assistant cat approves. Actually, he loves the strap dangling from the camera and that always gets his attention before I get the photo pose I was after.
Here are the fabrics I plan to use. I’ll make a test block or two and see how they look together. There isn’t much lime used in the quilt and because I didn’t want to have too many of the fabrics be Michael Miller Krystal or Moda Marbles, I’m using several lime greens and none of the greens are Marbles or Krystal. The background, which is very pale yellow, and the orange, are Krystal. The turquoise and peach are Marbles.
I’ve tweaked the pattern a bit but it’s still pretty much the same as what I showed yesterday.

Looks like Boots has given his stamp of approval to the project, LOL.
And, FWIW, I like your fabric choices!

Thanks. I’m not completely sure about the turquoise. I wish I had one that was just a bit lighter but so far, if I have it, I haven’t found it.

It’s pretty. But and has all the colors of the stripe except that little bit of darker blue that runs along the stripes that make the other colors pop. I like the turquoise.

or you could add a pop to that turquoise with a black (putting the black where the darker green is in the third quilt) and stay with the rest of the fabrics you’ve chosen.

Looks great!

I love strips and turquoise is a fav. So can’t wait to see you work your magic on this quilt. Looks great.

I like those bright colors. I like the turquoise one as it is.

Isn’t it fun to pull fabric for a new quilt? I think that is my favorite part….unless I can’t find what I really want to use! Even if you don’t use the striped fabric in the top, it would make a good back!

Boots is just adorable! I love tuxedo kitties!

Judy, don’t forget that stripes make great bias bindings. I buy them and pull fabrics from them for a quilt and then use the stripe cut on the bias for the binding for the quilt. It always looks great as a finishing touch.
