Nothing like this to get you in the mood to knit on a wool project. This was yesterday but it will be the same for the next few days.
And just when you think it’s as miserable as it can get . .
. . it gets hotter. Last time I checked the temp, it was after 8 p.m. and the temp was 104º in the shade.
Sometimes you just have to wonder what would make anyone want to live in place that gets this hot. August in Texas . .
I would hope for a cooler day today but I’ve looked at the forecast and it’s just more of the same . . HOT!

Do you have any humidity or is it just a baking hot?? Personally I am not sure which is worse…. baking or steaming, but I know I’m not good for much in either situation! To help keep YOU cool(er) use an icepack, on your neck, belly or back while sitting… same for the house critters. wrap an icepack in a towel. Amazing how fast they figure cool!

Oh, I understand!! It was still 90 at 10pm last night. But it’s August in S. Okla. and to be expected.
JudyL says
Other than from about the end of July through mid-August, our night temps drop down to the low 70’s or high 60’s and that’s bearable but it’s these few weeks when it stays hot that it’s hard to deal with.
Sharon in Michigan says
Judy, I was wondering that very thing….why Texas?? I couldn’t stand the heat!
JudyL says
I’ve only lived in areas where the summers were 100+ degrees. Everywhere else we’ve lived had very high humidity so this dry heat is a bit different but I’ll take 6 weeks of miserable heat any day over snow and ice during the winter. When it’s this hot though, I sometimes forget that we chose to live in the south.
Rhonda says
I hear you!! I got up at 6:30 is morning just to mow at a “cooler” time….
I don’t think my air conditioner is working, it’s so hot!!

maybe it will fry the grasshoppers!

Winter in Texas is what makes me wanna live here!! And the 100’s don’t last too long–just seems that way.
JudyL says
Yes, this summer has been better than the last two summers.

I remember those days!! Now I have the best of both world, summer at the ocean way up north, winter in S. TX!!
JudyL says
We’ve considered having two places but then we couldn’t have the big garden, fruit trees and chickens so we’re not quite ready to give all that up yet. For us, the benefits of having the garden, fruit trees and chickens outweigh the few weeks of miserable heat.

That heat would get me down, even with air conditioning. I actually get headaches if it’s too hot. We live in Luther Burbank country in No. Calif. We now know why he chose this heavenly area to do his horticultural studies. It’s 58 degrees this a.m. and will be about 72 later today. This is a bit unseasonably cool for this time of the year. But, come Sept. – Oct. we will have a wonderful balmy temps. Come visit this wonderful area of Calif. sometime. Napa-Sonoma Valley. You won’t want to leave.

Our high here today was +14C which is about 57F. We could sure use some of your heat if you want to share!
Joan in NE says
We are having a mild summer. Its usually around 100 with high humidity, this year its in the 80’s with mild humidity. I like this. we have even had rain regularly this year. Every few days we get 1/2 to 2″ of rain. Usually on the cool side of fronts that pass too, so its been a great summer in Nebraska
Susan says
As long as it’s dry! If it’s humid, forget it. When I stopped in Amarillo last week, it was hot, dry and windy, and nothing hurt! I don’t want to live on the high plains, but I could do some place hot and dry with a view of the mountains.

Being from Kingsville, Texas, I must say this.. That humidity keeps the wrinkles at bay…..!!!
We have a home in Santa Fe, NM and I choose to stay at the house in Texas this time of the year..
I’d much rather have the heat/humidity…anyday!!

Ick! That’s one thing I love about Oregon. Our days over 100 are very few, although we’ve had way more 95+ days than usual this summer. Also, even though it can get very hot during the day, it usually cools way down at night. I mean sometimes all the way down into the 40s! It makes for one pleasant summer for the most part.
