My skin is far from perfect! It isn’t the worst I’ve ever seen but it surely isn’t the best. For many years, I figured that the more money I spent on skin care products, the better my skin would look. I’ve learned that spending more money doesn’t mean I’ll be getting a better product, or that my skin will look better!
I was familiar with Cetaphil products and through the years, at various times for either myself or a family member, a doctor or dermatologist has recommended using Cetaphil® products but it was always something that I would use ’til whatever problem area was cleared up, and then I would go back to something else.
Due to my rosacea-prone skin, I’m under the regular care of a dermatologist. Several years ago, I visited her with a serious flareup and she gave me a bag of samples of Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Cleanser and Cetaphil® Daily Moisturizer with SPF 15, and recommended that I exclusively use both as part of my daily skin care regimen. I was a bit concerned because my skin is oily, but I was so pleased with both products and since that day, I’ve used both the Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Cleanser and the Cetaphil® Daily Moisturizer with SPF 15, even to the point that if I’m traveling and forget one of them, I buy more instead of using something else. Another good thing about Cetaphil products is that they’re so readily available. Almost all drug stores carry the full line, big box discount stores carry the full line, even some grocery stores carry Cetaphil products!
The Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Cleanser is creamy, feels more like a lotion than a cleanser, but is effective at removing makeup and the oils on my skin. My skin never feels overly dry after cleansing, but it feels clean. For anyone with oily skin, you know the importance of having your face feel clean. The Cetaphil® Daily Moisturizer with SPF 15 is light, fragrance-free, easy to apply smoothly, doesn’t feel greasy and my makeup can be applied almost immediately after using the moisturizer.
Since I’m one who believes in keeping extras of the things I love, these two Cetaphil products are also found in my “stock up” supplies.
Cetaphil products are the only brand recommended by more than 90% of dermatologists across all four major categories: body cleansers/body washes, facial cleansers, general body moisturizers, and facial moisturizers, and Cetaphil products are the #1 pediatrician recommended brand of cleansers and moisturizers.
Here are a few questions for you! Please answer the questions in the comments section to be entered in a random drawing for a $100 Visa gift card!
I use both of these products year round. I do not notice a need for more or less moisturizer as the seasons change. Do you find that you need to use one product for summer and a different product for winter? Of all the skin care products you own, which one could you not live without?
Also, do you find that as you age, you have a need for a different product? Something with more moisturizing ability?

I use the same products winter and summer, recently tired something new in a moisturizer that said it helped with red skin.. but it hurts my eyes… glad to see this review and I will try it next time I buy.. thanks
Regina says
I am bad – I don’t moisturize my face. I do get very dry and itchy arms and legs during the winter- painfully so – and have found that Oil of Olay Quench is the only thing that I really love for that – but don’t need during the “non central heating” months.
Christine says
It’s funny how our skin changes as it ages. I’m recently fighting breakouts…at my age…really…..
Jevne says
I use the same products winter and summer….handmade soap and moisturizer.

I just turned 70 and (wow, did I really?) and have used Cetaphil Daily Moisturizer for many years. I have dry skin and have used many suggestions for other moisturizers but this works the best for me.
Julie in WA says
My skin has not changed since I was a teenager when I started to pay attention to face care! I am blessed with really great skin…no special treatment is necessary. I don’t wear make-up, and I wash my face every other day with a scrub. I do need moisturizer, and I found that Velocity by Mary Kay works great. I would not go without it. Because of allergies, I am limited to what I can and cannot use; most skin care products contain added scents that I am unable to tolerate.
Pam says
My mother, who turns 99 in March, came to live with us 2 years ago. Once I started helping her with her shower, I use Cetaphil cream on her skin. She had bad senile keratosis on her back and it has improved their dryness and many have dropped off.
I buy it at Costco and stock up when it is on special.
Yes skin changes over the years.
Claudia Wade says
I don’t change my products with the seasons. I have very oily skin and now even in my mid-sixties I never need to moisturize. I always get a chuckle out of skin care articles in magazines where they say you only need to wash your face at night, that it shouldn’t need it in the morning. The people who write those sorts of things obviously never have had excessively oily skin. I will try the Cetaphil cleanser.
kathie says
I don’t use different products due to the season I find in the winter I have to use the moisturizer more often, 2 /3x’s a day.
My daughter uses these products as well, her dermatologist recommended them too. I never thought to try them
but now I will , thanks!

the one product i can’t live without is Dove soap. i have used this for years and love it.
i’ve switched from oil-free to extra-moisture moisturizer in the last 5 years…i’m 52 years old….i bet you can guess why.
my son had a mild breakout of eczema in his teens. the pediatrician recommended cetaphil and it worked like a charm. it’s good stuff…i never thought to use it for myself. i might have to give it a try when i run out of my ‘way too expensive’ moisturizer.
Eileen Foley says
Aging and seasons HAVE changed my skin care regimen. As I’ve gotten older, I do need to add an exfoliating moisturizer during the winter. I use it every other day.
I couldn’t live without the exfoliating body lotion that I use. It’s a different product than I use on my face. I live in Minnesota, and our heating season is so long, it really is drying to the skin.
patty says
My skin is day and always has been. I found an all natural goat milk cream that I love. I use the cream most of the time, but will switch to the lotion when I need something lighter. I use the goat milk soap which is non-drying for my face and body. The cream containes no parabens which paraben is bad!

I have not used Cetaphil products before, but based on the fact that I have topic allergies to grass and live in the grass seed capital of the world (Oregon) I think I should give this stuff a try! I have eczema and even spent some time in the hospital when I was a baby. covered in tar to treat it. I use boby butter every day after patting my skin dry with a towel after my bath. I have always used a gentle face wash and SPF 15 face cleaner. I have been using Trader Joe’s for a few years and it seens to do a good job.
wanda says
Ladies you know Walmart has the same product at half the price. Same thing just look for it. My granddaughter has had to use it since she was a baby and now 14. She can’t use soap of any kind on her skin just this. We use creamy vaseline on her for moisturizer too. Seems to work good and soak in better again Walmart brand now. Also to us when she is in the sun her skin is much better and when she goes to the beach it is better. Why no one can answer. But we’ve watched it for years now.
Try it out if you get a chance and see. Could save you tons of money in the long run.
Heather says
I agree with skin changes year to year, season to season…I’m constantly trying something new! At the moment, Bare Essentials line is what I cannot live without. It helps to cover and lessen the breakouts, but I still fight very dry skin on my face.
Donna says
I really like Cetaphil. I use the lotion and the cream. the cream is great fot dry heels in the winter time and barefeet in the summer.
Marlene says
Judy I’m so glad you posted this review. I’ve been looking for an alternative to the products I currently use, mainly because of price. I prefer to buy from a local pharmacy when possible but am currently using a product I have to get through a commissioned sales person. My skin is extremely dry because of a health condition but as I age it gets even drier so moisturizer is critical. I don’t wear makeup base, only eye makeup and blush, so I need a moisturizer that lasts. Otherwise my skin is flaking by the end of the day. I have very good skin, inherited and not earned since I don’t do anything to it but wash and moisturize. I’ll try Cetaphil when I’m next buying moisturizer so thanks for pointing it out. blessings, marlene

For skin care, I do not change products for the season. I do change sunscreens, though, something lighter for the warmer months. I could not be without my Toms of Maine Facial Soap. Yes, as I have aged, I definitely need different products.

My skin is super dry AND hyper-sensitive. I have difficulty finding products to use and have spent a great deal of money… Thank you for sharing this with me, I will try them. The one product I won’t live without is some sort of nice lip balm with no color, in case of emergency you can use it on extra dry spots.
Bec says
I use the same cleanser and moisterizer year round but if I’m feeling extra oily in the summer I add a little witch hazel as an astringent . Definitively couldn’t live without my moisturizer-it’s a must.
I’m actually thinking about my skin care/makeup products now-I’m 34 and starting to notice some of those fine lines and that my skin isn’t as elasticy as it used to be so I’m trying to figure out what the best stuff is for my skin now.
Cheryl in Iowa says
After a nasty reaction to a skin care product, my Doctor recommended Cetaphil. I’ve used it ever since. Good stuff, hypoalergenic and reasonably priced. Since i am getting older I wear less makeup but I need the moisture, this is my favorite moisturiser.
Katherine says
I use a generic of Cetaphil mousterizer year round for my face. I need something stronger for my hands in winter, usually go with something with Shea butter as my hands will dry out and crack. Ouch!
Robin says
I agree that winter is much worse than summer as far as dry skin goes but I’m bad and haven’t used anything except some lotion on the legs after shaving them! I know I should but just haven’t! I should check to see if Cetaphil has a product which would help with psoariasis.

Deb G. in VA says
I use a moisturizer with more SPF in the summer and less in the winter. I love that Cetaphil has fragrance free lotion, which I use in the summer to help prevent mosquito and tick bites.
Carla says
This is the first year that I have noticed that my skin is getting dry.
I started using a moisturizers because it was fragrance free .
But I find it has a greasy feel to it.
The next time I’m at the store I’m going to pick up some Cetaphil Skin moisturizers and give it try.
Thank you for the advice and the coupom
Pat says
Started usingCetaphil as a teenager but must start again. Rarely have to change products seasonally.
SueG says
Since I use the same products as you definately Cetaphil is what I won’t do without. I find that I just have to apply my moistureizer heavier in the winter since I’m aging…my skin still tends to be oily but the Cetaphil controls that and the moistureizer handles the dry areas I get on the sides of my chin.
Debi says
I don’t use any products on my face. Maybe I should start!
Susan says
I have a sad confession to make. I use soap and water, and then whatever lotion or cream I have lying around. There’s always something, either Avon or something someone gave me in a present. I need some kind of lotion or cream, just to fill in the wrinkles. =) I’m going to use the coupon and try this, though. Why not?
Hilary McDaniel says
I’ll give this a try. I use a prescription tar based cream on my skin. I have a rare dry skin disease. I can’t take the sun. I use Vaseline on my face as a moisturizer . It keeps my skin soft, clear, and moist. I know people think its greasy but within minutes my skin absorbs it and feels moist. I use it on my face, arms legs, I will try the cetaphil as a cleanser. I hope it works. Thanks for the review.
Debbie Harmon says
For years I have been using Clinique products, but I am ashamed to say that I neglect my skin a lot. I printed the coupon and will use it next time. Debbie in WV

I use the same product all year round but lately have noticed hat my skin is getting drier. The one product I cannot live without is my moisturizer. I have been the pink lady products user for about 35 years.I use all their products. I guess since I am 58 now, I better find something that works better for my older skin. I am gonna have to try this. Thanks for the recommendation.
My sweet husband tells me it’s not that my skin is getting older, it’s our lack of rain in west Texas! He’s a keeper!
Kathy says
I have used Neutrogena for years and use the same products all year long. Skin does change with age. Mine has gone from too oily to what I would call normal. I’m open to trying a different cleanser and will look into Cetaphil.
Tracy says
I think I’ve tried them all at different times over the years. Lately I’ve been using the Oil Cleansing Method. I mix castor oil and olive oil(although you can use other oils such as jojoba or cocoanut) on a1:1 ratio and add some essential oils as well. I think I have lavender, rosehip, and tea tree oil in my “potion”. I massage a small bit onto my face and neck for about a minute, then hold a hot wet washcloth over my face for about a minute..massage your face again and do the washcloth again. Wipe off any excess oil GENTLY and you are good to go. It seems counter productive to clean your face with oil when that’s what we’re trying to get rid of but I really like how it makes my skin feel. Not dried out like you get with cleanser from the store. This method is supposed to give your skin an even tone as well.
I also like the fact that it gets me away from crazy chemicals. I have yet to do it but I’m going to toss all the other cleansers and moisturizers cluttering up my drawers!
Tracy says
also I use witch hazel as an astringent in the mornings…it is supposed to help with under eye issues too!
I haven’t washed my face with soap for a couple of months now since using this Oil Cleansing method. I just wash with water in the shower.
JudyJ says
I use the same products in summer and winter. I would say my moisturizer is the one product I do not want to do without. I did change moisturizers after I got older because my skin tends to be drier now.
Mary Jo says
I have played around for years with different cleansers and different moisturizers. I’m just glad I have good skin! I generally use the same things year round.
JanetB says
My dermatologist recommended Cetaphil products several years ago and I use them year round. I have combination skin (oily in some places and dry in others), plus at age 60, I’m still dealing with acne. (Yes, it comes back after menopause to some folks.) Cetaphil is wonderful in balancing out my skin and moisterizing without increasing the acne flair-ups. I would highly recommend these products for any of us.
Doris Quilting Queen says
I have never tried it but just might with that $3 coupon. Have been a faithful Clinique user for years but gosh is it expensive!
Pam says
I only use Dove for my bodywash and facial cleanser. I don’t need any moisturizer with the Dove and don’t wear makeup, so my face cleans up really easily. Even in the coldest weather, it doesn’t dry out. Guess I just got good skin genes from my mom, she was beautiful until the day she died. Thanks for having the giveaway. Blessed be, hugs!!!
ava says
I don’t change skin care routines with the season. Oh wait, I don’t have a routine. I should have one. I think I’ll try Cetaphil since you’ve had good results with it.
Maria says
I use the same products year round. I can not live without my sunscreen. I have fair skin that burns easily.
Shellie says
As I get a bit older, I can definitely tell that my skin is drier than it used to be. I use Aquaphor a lot during the winter but rarely during the summer for my hands. What I used to use on my face I can’t find anymore so I’m experimenting with different products. It looks like I’ll give the Cetaphil a try next.
Merry Gay says
I started using the Cetaphil creme when my son went to the dermatologist for acne and he prescribed that along with regular use of Dove soap to clear it up. I had been searching for a good face cream and thought that this would be a good choice since it was recommended by the dermatologist. I don’t like to use it much though since it is so heavy and greasy feeling on my face. I don’t know why I never thought to pick up another formula of this same brand though. I will do this the next time I go to Walmart. I am going to buy the cleanser as well. Right now I’m using a bar of Neutrogena, which sits on the side of the sink and gets yukky looking. I normally use Oil of Olay face cleanser in the pump bottle and really do like that. I have the Neutrogena because they were out of Olay when I went for a refill and had to have something. Now that I have it I’ll use it up because that’s the way I am. I’m a waste not want not kind of gal. The thing I can’t seem to live without is Neutrogena sesame body oil. You don’t put it in the bath, but you smooth it on your wet skin when you step out of the bath or shower and then air dry. It isn’t oily at all and leaves your skin feeling silky and wonderful.
Linda says
Judy, Thanks for posting this article and the link for the coupons. My husband has rosacea, and we use the daily facial cleaner and the moisturizer. Since using Cetaphil products, his rosacea has cleared up. Cetaphil products are excellent!
Marie Gilkey says
I have used only soap and water for years because at the ole age of 61, I still break out. It is a pain, so maybe I will try this one. Couldn’t use alot of the ones out on market, face turned beet red.
Marilyn Smith says
My dermatoligist recommended Cetaphil after I had a mos surgery for a skin cancer and for showering after having a large cyst (infected etc.) removed. I need to try the moisturizer. Still use the soap on my face. Have printed off the coupon.
Kathy C says
I have rosacea too and use Aveno cleanser and moisturizer. I do find that I need to use amoisturizer morning and night in the winter but only in the morning in the summer. Don’t think I could live without a good cleanser.
Sharon says
I was lucky and had great skin as a teenager, but that changed in my thirties. I started having blemishes, etc.. Now thirty years later, I have big pores on my face, but still need a moisturizer. I use the same one year around. What I can’t tolerate is a scented product. I’ve never tried Cetaphil, but certainly will – if it is not scented.
Mel Meister says
The only product I have ever used on my face is Noxema, since I was a young child. I love it!
I use whatever is on sale or cheapest for a body lotion for the most part (typically Suave). I have purchased some Bath and Body Works lotions from time to time.
I could not live without a body lotion, my skin is so dry.
Ellen says
I have used Cetaphil for over 10 years now and love it. I use the same Cetaphil in the big round tub all year long. It is the only stuff that keeps me moisturized. Thanks for the giveaway!
Deb S says
Wish I had this info Monday ! I was staring at the vast offerings trying to decide which product would really make my skin look younger – ended up spending over $20 for a tiny bottle ! I don’t wear makeup, so my skin is in pretty decent shape for being in my 40’s – although I am starting to see laugh lines around my eyes and a wrinkle in my forehead. I use a body butter on my feet and legs – from Jordan Essentials.
Becky Ingram says
I react to a chemical that is found in most “soap” products. I have used “seaweed” soap I find in Asain grocery stores on my face, “Dove” bar soap on my body. and extra virgin olive oil as moisturizer for my entire body (I rub it on before toweling dry after I shower) . I know it sounds strange but the combination works for me. I would try something else if those pesky chemicals weren’t present but that seems almost impossible. So this works for me.
judy s. says
My skin is alot dryer in the winter. When my hands start to get dry, I know it is winter. I use the same face wash and lotion all year, but will give this a try.

I’ve used Cetaphil cleanser for many years but find I still have to use an exfoliator type cleanser every few days to get the flakey skin off my face. I’ve lived in the desert for 42 years and even with oily skin the dry climate dries out the surface of the skin. Now that I am older, ahem, I do have to use a heavier moisture cream and night cream. I use the same all year round.
Verna says
I do use different moisturizing products during our MN winters (Judy’s homemade hand cream is great!). I can’t live without a good facial moisturizer, but I haven’t found that I need more now that I’m older. I’m always game for a new products, so I’ll be trying Cetaphil.
Julie in Tucson, AZ says
My dermatologist has also recommended the same for me. Works really well.
Ranch Wife says
I’m thinking I ought to put some of this in college girl’s stocking – she struggles with dry skin year round, but of course it really rears it’s head in the winter. I always thought it was our water which is really hard and we don’t have a water softener, but now that she is in college, she still has dry skin. I use the same product all year and have used the same thing for a long time for my face. However, for general dry skin (hands are the worst), I use whatever is on sale. So thank you for the coupon!
Linda in PA says
I have been using Cetaphil cleanser for years. As for moisturizer, I have tried many, some expensive, some not so much. They have all been okay, but not great. I think that I’ll try the Cetaphil moisturizer with SPF. I wouldn’t want to be without the Cetaphil cleanser. My routine and products stay pretty much the same year round. Sometimes in the summer, I need to wash my face in the middle of the day because my skin is so oily and the heat makes it even worse.
cw says
I find that I need more moisture in the winter and one with spf in the summer. Can’t live without my moisturizer every day. Also, as I age, I see the need for moisturizer even more (wrinkles are more prominent 🙁

I have mild rosacea and i cannot use Eucerin it is very oily for my skin as well and breaks me out so i have red irritated skin with zits on top. not pretty, try cetaphil I really love their products and they arent crazy expensive which makes me want to kiss them for that!

I use the same products year round. For moisturizing, I’ve been using an all-natural, unscented baby lotion, and that’s the product I currently can’t live without. My skin was oily when I was young, and it’s dried out to ‘normal’ over the years, so really the only product I’ve added has been moisturizer. I use it on my face year-round, but all over in the winter. I will definitely try the Cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer if it’s fragrance-free; neither my husband nor I can tolerate the scents in most products.
Erica says
I use my Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream year round, but since my skin is so extremely dry even with using the Cetaphil creme, I also use something my dermatologist recommended. I use it more in the Winter, but I found if I just use the other stuff and not the Cetaphil, my skin gets really dry, so I use both year round. My favorite product is the Cetaphil Moisturizing Creme, but I also love the new Restoraderm products as well. I’ve been using the creme now for several years. I have not found that I need a different product, but I’m only 28. I’ve been using Cetaphil for probably 7-8 years now.
Donette says

I do not change my skin care routine much although i do moisturize more often in the winter and sometimes in the summer i will use the cleanser for oily skin instead of dry. I use the same products year-round, and as I age, I look for products with anti-wrinkle properties.
I can’t live without my cream blush! It gives me a natural glow and I love it!
Judith B. says
I do not use different products for different seasons. I could not live w/o my Dove Body Bar. As I have aged, I use different products as they become more specialized to my needs (eye cream, wrinkle reducer, etc)

I know I should not take such long and hot showers in the winter, but I just can’t help myself so I make sure to use moisturizing soaps and body washes and then I slather on moisturizer right after I get out of the shower

I couldn’t live without moisturizer with SPF or my skin would be very dry but would like to try Cetaphil products after reading your review. Thanks for this review and giveaway.

I have to use Burt’s Bees Night Cream in the morning and at a night because my skin is extremely dry during this pregnancy. Usually during the summer I make sure I use a lighter moisturizer with SPF. Of course the older I get the drier my skin gets and have to moisturize more often.

Dermatologist recommended Cetaphil over 4 years ago for my preteen. We both started using Cetaphil twice daily and have seen great results. I stopped using Step 1 of my 3 Step clea

I’m about to turn 44 and throughout my life I’ve been so lucky with my skin. The fact I have to use a moisturizer at all is a change I’m still getting used to! I also find that some cleansers make me feel cleaner than others so that’s a preference, even though the ones I’ve tried have worked equally well. As a skin cancer survivor (basal cell carcinoma) the SPF is important to me. The last brand I bought I just assumed had it but no. I’m too cheap to toss it and replace so I’m wearing more hats. I try to be more diligent about my moisturizing in the winter because my apartment is so hot but I’m not great at it. Well, always room for improvement!
LAMusing says
I generally use the same products all year, but the products have certainly changed as I’ve aged.

I’ve used Cetaphil Cleanser and Moisturizer for years (ever since the dermatologist recommended it). I don’t think I’d use one without the other–if I wash my face, I like to put moisturizer on (and I wouldn’t think of putting moisturizer on if I haven’t washed yet!). I haven’t tried the moisturizer with SPF yet, so I really appreciate the generous coupon.

Of all the skin care products I own, I cannot live without lotion! My skin will be all too tight and dry. In summer, I like to use a product that is water base, which is lighter. But I need rich and creamy lotion in the winter for sure!

Its so dry where we live and this is the only moisturizer that helps with the itching!! Love it and the cleanser.

I’ve always had very dry skin and find that as I get older it only gets dryer. I usually use Eucerin which was recommended by my doctors years ago. I almost never wear makeup–I think it is very hard on your skin. I may give Cetaphil a try, particular for hands and elbows–my worst dry spots.
Becky in Georgia says
I find my skin extra dry in winter. My favorite moisturizer has been the homemade cream that you blogged about several years ago. I like it for night cream and body cream. Happy to read about the Cetaphil lotion with sunscreem. I’ll print the coupon and give it a shot. Thanks for the wonderful review!

I use the same cleansing products summer and winter but use moisturizer during the winter. In my early 40s, my skin is still oily and living in Florida, I really don’t need summer moisturizer and I haven’t changed my cleanser. Of my skin products, I couldn’t live without my cleanser!

I buy my Cetaphil cleanser and moisturizing cream @ Costco. I’ve never tried the lotion, but will look for it for summer use. Normally, I don’t change anything from summer to winter, except maybe foundation color. The one product I could not live without is moisturizer…..face, hands, lips…….day and night, a must!

I can’t live without face moisturizer. I tend to need a lighter one in summer and a heavier one in winter when the air is so dry. As I get older, I’m finding that I need to start using anti-aging products for prevention.
