There’s a Quiltathon coming up Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For me that means cooking meals ahead, getting the laundry done early . . doing everything I can do in order to spend more time in the sewing room on those days. Anyone planning to join me?
A while back . . maybe a couple of years ago, I began doing some patterns as “cheat sheets”. They’re not full blown, step by step patterns. For anyone who can do a half square triangle, quarter square triangle, flying geese — just some basic quilt pieces, it should be a piece of cake. I’m going to try to do them so they take up no more than the front and back of one page. My goal is to do one each month. Most will be simple — tops that can be completed over the four day Quiltathon.
For all of these cheat sheet type patterns, there will be a border chart but it will be non-pieced borders. If you want to add snazzy borders, I recommend 60 Pieced Quilt Borders. I hear it’s an excellent book! 🙂
The quilt I will be making for the upcoming Quiltathon and the cheat sheet type pattern that will be available is the quilt for my friend. The name of the quilt is “Sing a Happy Song”.
The pattern shown is printed on the front and back side and I believe you’ll like the format. I like it because I don’t have to go into such detail, so many graphics, drawings, resizing. It saves ink and paper and I believe it gives you plenty of info to make the quilt.
For those making the Quiltathon free pattern on Quiltathon weekend (the upcoming one as well as future ones), I will answer any questions you have during that weekend. The patterns will be available on the free patterns page and will not be taken down after the Quiltathon ends.
What do you think?

I think you are one of the most generous bloggers/authors on the internet when it comes to sharing your patterns. While my sewing time is very limited, I always save at least a picture of yours because I love them so much! Thanks for all you do!

i love this idea judy. i will be available for most of the quiltathon and working along side of you. i have other things in the que that NEED to get done, but will work those into the rotation of starting a new project too…..yeah!!!! i get to look forward to this!!!! sorta like a party!!! getting ready for me is part of the fun–getting the house ready, the meals etc….and, other things crossed off my list in order to maximize my fun time. it is such a huge win-win for me and my house and family!!!!

I love that you are able to even conceive of doing this.,… I hope others can too. Right now I am struggling to finish 3 baby quilts, one is done, a second needs to have the binding finished, the third needs pieced boarders applied, and I have 2 pieced quilts that need to be finsihed…. I think I’m too over whelmed to take on a quilt athon…. if my family will leave me alone tomorrow I might get the BB quilts finished.

Looks like a really cute design, thanks!
I think the “cheat sheet” idea is great. Enough information to get it made, without all of the extra. After quilting for 20 years I don’t need all of the beginner info and I appreciate saving paper and ink.
You heard right! The border book is really good. If you need a copy I know the lady who wrote it. 🙂
Thanks for the quiltathon. I need it after the past week I have had. Too stressful for word. I told my husband I will be in my sewing room until further notice and I’m not to be disturbed!

I think you are incredibly generous to share your hard work and gorgeous designs. I’ll be printing for the future and eagerly watching everyone’s progress, but I’ve got too many other irons in the fire at the moment. Your friend is going to love that quilt!

Judy ~ 60 Pieced Borders is truly a wonderful book!!
I’m planning to join the Quiltathon while watching my daughter participate in a National Horse Show in OK. I do appreciate that the show is offered through a live streaming video on my computer but difficult for me to just sit there and watch, especially from afar!! So you’ve offered me the perfect solution! Also, I’m hoping to bust a little stash! Thank you so much!!

Sounds like fun. Should be able to join at least part of the time.Hope to get the last 2 borders on the one from the August quiltathon as soon as we get home. Thank you for being so generous with your patterns.
Cindy from CA says
Sounds like a great project!! I will have to follow by one week, since everyone is coming to my house on 9/15 for a family reunion!
When will the cheat sheet be available?
Thanks for all the GOOD things you do for us!

The cheat sheet is a wonderful idea: I could keep the pattern in the same box with my cut pieces and never again loose track of what goes where (plenty of UFOs here). I am a very absent minded not-quite-beginner with very little storage room.

I think it is a great idea. Love following/working along with you. I have the border book and I am so glad you put that together! Really like the patterns you post for us to quit a long with you. Thank you!!!

Great idea–I do like saving ink and it’s a lovely pattern, perfect for scrappy! The longer I quilt the more I’m drawn to just the basics.
